Six Must Do’s at EPCOT’s Norway Pavilion

Whether you love Frozen (2013), are looking for sweets, or shopping for a unique gift there are lots to see and do in EPCOT’s Norway pavilion. But there is more than school bread and tales from Arendelle if you are up for exploring this stop around World Showcase Lagoon. Here’s everything we recommend doing in Norway during your next trip to EPCOT:

Take a Look at Norwegian Architecture

Norway (in real life) is full of fascinating architectural details, some of which have made their way to EPCOT. The pavilion features multiple styles of iconic Norwegian architecture including Setesdal, Bergen, Oslo, and Ålesund styles, many of which can also be seen in Frozen, and in the actual country of Norway on select Adventures by Disney vacations.

The stave church to the left when you enter the pavilion is one of the most traditional Norwegian building styles, and to the right, the Restaurant Akershus is modeled after its real-world counterpart in Oslo. (Normally a staple of character dining in EPCOT, Restaurant Akershus has not yet reopened. We do still recommend taking a look at the architecture of the building, though!)

Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe

For something sweet in Norway, Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe needs to be at the top of your list. This adorable bakery is home to traditional Norwegian pastries and coffee, including the popular school bread, sweet lefse flatbreads, kringla sweet pretzels, rice cream, and more.

For something quick to eat on the go in EPCOT, the bakery is also a great spot to pick up sandwiches or to grab a Viking coffee or beer. The bakery also has a small seating area under cover by the exit so you can relax with some shade before heading back out into World Showcase.

Experience a Frozen Attraction, Merchandise, and More

Fans of Frozen will want to prioritize Frozen Ever After as far as EPCOT attractions go. This boat ride features favorite characters from the hit Walt Disney Animation Studios film, a visit to Elsa’s ice palace, and small drops.

You’ll need to “exit through the gift shop” after the ride is over and walk out through the Wandering Reindeer shop, but for Frozen fans this is a great opportunity to pick up some unique Frozen merchandise, with some items you won’t find anywhere else in the park or around Walt Disney World.

For even more Frozen fun, stop by the pavilion’s Royal Sommerhus to meet Anna and Elsa! The two sisters are greeting Guests indoors, so masks are required at this time, and the meet and greet is distanced, but it is very exciting to once again be able to meet characters in Norway.

Visit the Stave Church Gallery

For an authentic look at Norway’s culture, head inside the Stave Church Gallery. There you will find an exhibit displaying a variety of historical artifacts, some of which can only otherwise be found in Norway.

The exhibitions inside largely focus on Viking culture sharing objects and information to convey Viking beliefs, myths, and history. You can also find artwork and information devoted to ancient deities like Odin, and a look at how Vikings built their ships and traveled.

Do Some Shopping

The shops within the Norway pavilion aren’t only home to merchandise for the Frozen fan. You can also find a variety of packaged Norwegian grocery items and snacks, and high-end clothing and accessories like perfumes by Laila and winterwear by Helly Hansen.

You may also come across a life-sized troll, that makes for a fun photo op while you shop, along with a more “touristy” selection of items like miniature trolls, mugs and t-shirts with artwork of EPCOT’s Norway pavilion, and Viking hats.

Check for Special Events and Activities

While Norway does not have some of the year-round entertainment that other World Showcase pavilions have, there are often some enhancements here during EPCOT festivals and select holidays.

During the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival, for instance, Guests can stop by the Norway pavilion to find topiaries of Anna and Elsa. At the EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays, you can find Sigrid and Christmas Gnome Julenisse, holiday storytellers who share Norwegian Christmas traditions.
