IDW Publishing’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin (2020) has become one of the most successful and widely discussed TMNT stories in recent years, and it has spawned an expanding line of follow-up titles that continue its darker, future-set timeline.
That continuity has already grown to include Lost Years, Lost Day, and The Last Ronin II — Re-Evolution, collectively forming what fans have come to call the “Ronin-verse.”

Now, that universe is set to grow again with the announcement of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin — Training Day (2026), a new one-shot prequel comic from IDW, with cover art and a release date now revealed as part of its rollout.
According to details shared by NickAlive!, the story takes place between issues #3 and #4 of The Last Ronin and follows Michelangelo during a 24-hour period as he trains Casey Marie Jones, the daughter of April O’Neil and Casey Jones.

Outside of publishing, The Last Ronin has also been at the center of shifting plans for the franchise’s film future. A previously announced R-rated live-action adaptation was canceled last year, with Paramount instead moving forward with an as-yet-untitled family-friendly CG/live-action hybrid reboot, currently scheduled for release in November 2028.
However, TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman, who co-wrote The Last Ronin, said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly earlier this year that the film adaptation has not necessarily been permanently shelved, suggesting it could still happen in some form.

In addition to its comic book expansion, a “AAA” video game based on The Last Ronin is still reportedly in development, while a novelized version of the original story is also set to release this June, further extending the property into new formats.
Beyond The Last Ronin, Paramount continues to build out the wider TMNT slate, with the unrelated Mutant Mayhem 2 (2027) set for release in August next year.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin — Training Day is scheduled for release on July 9, 2026. Pre-orders are now available.
