Let’s be honest, the airport is nobody’s favorite part of a Disney vacation. You’re tired, you’ve got way too many bags, and somebody in your group definitely needs a snack. But Orlando International Airport (MCO) is making some changes that might actually make that part of the trip a little less painful.
At its latest board meeting, the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) went over everything that got done in fiscal year 2026 and shared plans for even more. Spoiler: there’s a lot.
Moving Walkways, Finally
If you take the train to the airport, this one’s for you. There’s a new enclosed pedestrian bridge connecting the Train Station to Terminal C, and it has moving walkways. Anyone who has hauled a suitcase, a stroller, and a cranky kid through an airport knows how big of a deal that is.
Terminal C Got Bigger
Terminal C also has a brand-new wing with Gates 250 through 254. That means more space, more capacity, and a new home for Virgin Atlantic. More gates should help a lot during the crazy busy times of year, like summer, spring break, and the holidays, when it feels like everyone on Earth is flying to Orlando.
Family Zones Are a Lifesaver
This might be our favorite update. There are now three Family Zones at MCO, one in every terminal. They’re dedicated spaces where kids can play, read, and just chill before their flight.
After a week of running around theme parks, giving your kids somewhere to burn off their last bit of energy before getting on a plane? Yes, please.
You Might Actually Find Your Way Around
MCO also updated its signs throughout the airport, parking garages, and the roads around it. So if you’ve ever circled the airport three times trying to find the right spot, the new signs should help.
Parking Is Getting a Big Fix
If you’ve ever driven to MCO and spent forever hunting for a parking spot, good news. The airport is adding a new Parking Guidance System in Terminal C, and it’ll roll out in phases to all the garages through mid-2027. It’s designed to help you find open spaces faster.
The airport also set up dedicated employee parking to free up more spots for travelers. And here’s the big one: two new parking garages are being planned, and together they’ll add about 8,000 public parking spaces. That’s a lot of spots.
On top of all that, a $40 million Beautiful Airports Program is improving parking facilities, terminals, and other areas, with a focus on how things look, safety, and how well everything works.
New Flights to Tokyo and Madrid
International travelers got some new options too. ZIPAIR started nonstop passenger charter flights between Orlando and Tokyo, Japan. That’s the first passenger charter service ever between Florida and the Asia-Pacific region, which is pretty wild.
Iberia also launched nonstop flights between Orlando and Madrid, Spain, so there’s now another direct way to get here from Europe.
Big Money Behind the Scenes
There’s also a ton of investment going on that most travelers won’t really see. That includes a $50 million project from dnata, a $26 million redevelopment by Signature Aviation at MCO, and a $40 million Sky Harbour campus at Orlando Executive Airport.
GOAA CEO Lance Lyttle said, “We are undertaking an ambitious effort to redefine what it means to deliver a world-class airport experience.” Big words, but with all these projects, it sounds like they mean it.
The Aviation Authority is also updating its Local Developing Business program and starting a new Small Business program to give qualifying Florida businesses more opportunities.
So, Does This Help Theme Park Travelers?
Short answer, yes. Whether you’re heading to Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando Resort, or anywhere else around Central Florida, these updates could make the start and end of your trip a lot smoother. Moving walkways, places for kids to play, better signs, more parking, and new international flights all add up.
Orlando isn’t slowing down anytime soon, and it looks like the airport is getting ready for even bigger crowds. At least now you might find a parking spot.
