The news, circulating thanks to The Hollywood Handle via insider Daniel Richtman on X/Twitter, has sparked a flurry of reactions among fans worldwide. However, the twist lies in the revelation that Johnny Depp might return not as the leading man but in a supporting role.

For a small portion of fervent followers of the franchise, the prospect of Depp’s return, even in a diminished capacity, is cause for celebration. After all, the actor’s portrayal of the eccentric and charismatic Captain Jack Sparrow has become synonymous with the series since its inception. Yet, the idea of him not reprising his iconic role at the helm of the narrative has left the vast majority of fans feeling uneasy, skeptical, and upset.

Social media platforms erupted with a variety of opinions and emotions, with fans expressing everything from disappointment to outright skepticism. One user’s disillusionment was palpable as they declared, “Johnny Depp would never take it, not after how they treated him during the trials.” The sentiment that Depp’s treatment by Disney– especially following the allegations of Amber Heard— might deter him from returning echoed through numerous comments.

Another fan succinctly captured the essence of the franchise’s allure, stating, “Supporting role? Lol na. It’s Jack Sparrow, he’s why people watch the movies.” This sentiment underscores the challenge Disney might face in deviating from the formula that made the franchise a global phenomenon in the first place. Many fans indicated that Disney is only attempting to get Johnny Depp back– in the supporting role, nonetheless– as a way to “use” the star. This could be because of the increasing amount of backlash that the company has faced when reports continue to come forward about Pirates of the Caribbean 6 without Johnny Depp.

In the last several months, there have been multiple rumors coming forward for what might be next for POTC. One of the strongest reports– which was later delayed by Disney– was that Margot Robbie would take over as the lead for the sixth installment. Though she had success in the Barbie movie, Disney has reportedly moved forward with another script that won’t include Robbie, at least for the time being. Since that point, there have been multiple rumors, but nothing concrete.

As discussions surrounding Depp’s potential involvement continue to take place, it’s worth reflecting on the enduring legacy of the Pirates of the Caribbean saga. Since its maiden voyage in 2003 with Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, the franchise has enthralled audiences with its blend of high-seas adventure, supernatural elements, and irreverent humor. Subsequent installments, including Dead Man’s Chest (2006), At World’s End (2007), On Stranger Tides (2011), and Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017), have further solidified the series as a cornerstone of modern cinematic escapism.

Each film in the franchise has contributed its own unique flavor to the overarching narrative, showcasing the evolution of beloved characters like Captain Jack Sparrow, Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), and Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) while introducing audiences to new faces and challenges. As Disney sets sail once more with Pirates of the Caribbean 6, the studio faces the daunting task of steering the franchise into uncharted waters while honoring its storied past.

Of course, the film franchise is based on the iconic attraction at Disneyland Resort and Magic Kingdom Park in Walt Disney World Resort. The attraction was changed to feature animatronics that look like Captain Jack Sparrow, and the storyline was also altered to include themes from the film series.

Here we go again! Bob Iger and Company are planning to not keep Johnny Depp as a main character in Pirates of the Caribbean 6. You are setting yourselves up For ANOTHER FLOP! POTC is NOT worth watching without Johnny Depp doing his usual thing. His take on Captain Jack is unique and loved by fans that love the Pirates franchise. Don’t make a mistake and put Johnny Depp into the last 2 minutes of the movie! It will SURELY FLOP! I love Disney! I grew up loving Disney. Heed what I’m saying. Thanks!🙏🏻 🙏🏻
