Planning and Packing for Disney 101

Walt Disney World

Planning and packing for a trip to Walt Disney World can be challenging.  There are so many elements to consider, such as travel dates, length of stay, transportation, accommodations, park tickets, etc.  Pack what you will need, but don't overpack.  There are plenty of shops and stores on and off Disney property where you can purchase items you forgot to bring or extra clothing just in case the weather suddenly changes.  Financing your Disney trip is also an important consideration.  Factor in park tickets, average cost of hotel, dining expenses, souvenirs, etc.  It's always a good idea to have an emergency stash also.  Here are a few hints and tips that will help with your Disney World adventure.

1.  Schedule Your Dates Early

Walt Disney World is the most visited theme park in the world with an average annual attendance of more than 52 million guests, so you really need to pick your dates as early as possible.  Some dates are better than others as far as least and most crowded.  There are dates at select Disney Resort Hotels that offer special discounts and free dining on select dates.

2.  Accommodations

Once you have picked your dates, the next step is to choose your accommodations.  There are approximately 28 themed Disney Resort Hotels and 9 non-Disney hotels on Disney World/Lake Buena Vista property.  In addition, you can choose from many exceptional hotels or rental properties in nearby Orlando and Kissimmee.  Choosing a Disney Resort Hotel will make your Disney vacation even more magical, including select Disney Resort Hotels which offer beautifully designed Disney themed rooms.

3.  Advantages of Staying at a Disney Resort Hotel

When you are a guest of a Disney Resort Hotel, you will be able to take advantage of free transportation from your hotel to the four theme parks, two water parks, and Disney Springs (an outdoor shopping, dining, and entertainment complex).  Disney Resort Hotel guests who have traveled by plane have the "Magical Express" option which offers complimentary motorcoach transportation to and from Orlando International Airport and Disney Resort Hotels, with complimentary luggage delivery.  Other fantastic perks are complimentary Magic Bands, early access to attraction and dining reservations, extra magic hours, Disney Dining Plans, and so much more.  There are several Disney World vacation packages to choose from, which include a Disney Resort Hotel room, park admission, dining plans, and other options.

4.  Packing (Clothing)

Florida does not have very many low-temperature days so I would recommend packing T-shirts, shorts, capris, etc. for those hot humid months.  Fold or roll clothing from front to back which leaves room on top for other accessories.  For cooler months, pack lightweight jackets.  They usually take up less room than most sweatshirts.  Buy sample products which can be thrown away after usage.  The Resort hotels provide plenty of soap, shampoo and conditioner.  If you're staying more than 5 days, there are laundry facilities at most resorts.   Put all those shoes in a duffle bag and you can sort them out after you arrive at your Hotel.
