A major transformation is on the horizon for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, and the changes could completely alter how guests experience Batuu moving forward.
Disneyland Resort has confirmed that its Star Wars land will soon shift away from its original timeline constraints. Since opening, Galaxy’s Edge has been rooted firmly in the sequel trilogy era, but that approach is now being expanded to include stories and characters from across the franchise.
Galaxy’s Edge, found at Disneyland Park and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, has always focused on immersion. Rather than recreating familiar movie settings, Disney built an entirely new location—Batuu—anchored by Black Spire Outpost.
The land features two headline attractions. Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run gives guests control of the famous ship, and soon it will incorporate elements from The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026), including Din Djarin and Grogu themselves.
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance continues to deliver a cinematic-scale experience, combining multiple ride technologies and live performers to tell a Resistance vs. First Order story.
But what really sets Galaxy’s Edge apart is its attention to detail. From Oga’s Cantina to hands-on experiences like building lightsabers and droids, the land is designed to feel like a functioning outpost in the Star Wars universe. That immersive approach is now being expanded in a new direction.
“Beginning April 29, 2026, visitors will be invited to immerse themselves in different points of the Star Wars saga inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland park as they never have before,” Disney Parks Blog announced earlier this year, “with characters and storylines that capture the heart of what draws guests to this galaxy far, far away.”
One of the biggest additions is the arrival of original trilogy characters. Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia will soon appear in Galaxy’s Edge, bringing a new era of storytelling into Batuu.
Darth Vader’s search for Luke Skywalker will bring him to Batuu. This Sith Lord will be joined by Imperial Stormtroopers, and as they seek the elusive Jedi, they may find hints of the Force around the outpost.
Leia Organa and Han Solo will be reunited with Luke Skywalker and Chewbacca amid the rocky spires.
Luke Skywalker will roam the outpost seeking knowledge of the Force and artifacts related to lightsaber building, kyber crystals, and more.
Leia Organa may be spotted near the Millennium Falcon, where she’ll recruit travelers and locals to help keep Luke safe.
Han Solo will also linger around his prized ship, tempted by the local cantina.
Characters already established in the land, including Rey, the Mandalorian, and Ahsoka, will remain part of the experience, creating a mix of eras within a single setting. This marks a notable change for Galaxy’s Edge, which had previously maintained a strict place in the Star Wars timeline. Now, Black Spire Outpost will function as a crossover space where multiple storylines can coexist.
However, not all characters are making the transition. Vi Moradi, a Resistance operative who has been a fixture of the land since its early days, is being written out of Batuu. The character originated in Delilah S. Dawson's “Star Wars: Phasma” (2017) before appearing in the parks.
Back in August 2019, StarWars.com shared the character's history, saying, “Vi is a long-time member of the Resistance, and she's responsible for keeping the spark of hope alive, undermining and fighting the First Order whenever she can.” However, that chapter is now coming to a close.
According to a post shared on Instagram by @thatcornerincoruscant, a performer portraying Vi Moradi revealed that the character has been reassigned to a new mission beyond Batuu. This in-universe explanation aligns with the larger timeline changes coming to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
The change takes effect April 29, coinciding with the broader update. Fans have already begun reacting, with one commenting, “Wish they'd just move her to the area around Rise; [she is too good a] character for young black girls to have someone that they relate to,” while another wrote, “No Vi can't leave we need to fight to keep her on Batuu.”
Disney has not released a dedicated statement about the removal, but the decision aligns with the land’s evolving narrative.
Additional updates will also reshape the atmosphere of Batuu. Music from the original six films will be introduced, including John Williams’ “Main Title,” the Force Theme, and selections like “Han Solo and the Princess,” “The Desert and the Robot Auction,” and “The Emperor.” Oga’s Cantina will continue to feature the “Cantina Band,” now reflecting the Galactic Civil War timeframe.
Merchandise locations are also being refreshed. First Order Cargo has become Black Spire Surplus, “a military salvage operation offering artifacts from across the history of the galaxy,” while Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities will continue rotating inventory.
Experiences like Droid Depot and Savi’s Workshop remain in place, with subtle updates connecting to the new narrative direction.
Nighttime entertainment offerings such as “Shadows of Memory: A Skywalker Saga” and “Fire of the Rising Moons” will continue, with some changes arriving in phases ahead of the full rollout on April 29, 2026.
Ultimately, Disney is repositioning Galaxy’s Edge as a destination that reflects the entire Star Wars saga, rather than a single chapter in its timeline.
