Guests wandering through Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios have been navigating construction walls near one of the land’s most popular experiences for months, and Walt Disney World Resort has only just begun showing what all the work was actually for.
Eight Months in the Making

Barricades first went up around the courtyard adjacent to Savi’s Workshop back in August, though visible progress in the area was hard to come by. It wasn’t until earlier this year that Central Florida Disney Park guests started noticing new support poles rising near the build-your-own-lightsaber location in Batuu.
Those poles finally revealed their purpose last week.
New Shade Canopies Installed

On March 30, the first of several new canopies appeared strung between the tall poles above the Savi’s Workshop courtyard, with additional structures following shortly after. WDWNT reported the development on Wednesday, noting that the canopies extend shade coverage into areas that existing umbrellas and awnings didn’t reach — a welcome addition in the sun-baked, concrete-heavy environment of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
Savi’s Workshop itself has remained open throughout the entire construction period, though reservations are required to participate in the lightsaber-building experience as usual.
Walt Disney World Resort has not publicly addressed the months-long project or offered a timeline for when the construction walls will come down.
A Land on the Verge of Bigger Changes

The new canopies arrive as Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge prepares for a much larger transformation. Both Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland Park are set to shift half of the Star Wars-themed land into the original trilogy era, bringing characters like Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, Han Solo, and Darth Vader to Batuu while the other half remains rooted in the sequel era.
Disneyland Resort has confirmed its transition begins April 29. Walt Disney World Resort has not announced an equivalent date. Disney Fanatic will share updates as more details are confirmed.
