It's not a ride, and it's not a show, but Walt Disney World Resort quietly debuted something new in the Germany Pavilion at EPCOT this week, and it's already got guests talking. The “attraction” in question: a wooden counter, and it's a direct response to a trash can problem Disney created for itself.
A Snack Station Born From Necessity

For months, Walt Disney World Resort has been swapping out the theme parks' old flat-top trash and recycling bins for a sleeker, more efficient design. The new bins ditch the push-open lid for a foot pedal and pack in internal compactors, meaning custodial cast members don't have to swap out bags as often. Outdoor versions even come topped with rounded solar panels.
This upgrade had an unintended side effect around the EPCOT World Showcase. Regulars at the crowded EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival have long treated the flat-top trash cans as makeshift tables, setting down trays and cups while grabbing bites from the Global Marketplaces. The new rounded-top design removed that option, since there's no longer a flat surface to use.
Disney's Fix: A Wooden Counter With Rules Attached

Just a week before the 2026 Food & Wine Festival kicks off, Walt Disney World Resort installed its first fix: a temporary wooden counter mounted along the railings of the Germany Pavilion. On Thursday, WDW News Today shared a photo of the new counter on Facebook, showing the setup in place.
The counter includes a raised back edge, likely to keep food and trash from tumbling into the surrounding flowerbeds, plus a sign reading “no seating.” Whether EPCOT guests actually follow that instruction remains to be seen.
2026 EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival

The EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival returns August 27 and runs through November 21, 2026. Walt Disney World Resort has already published its full Global Marketplaces lineup, though menu items could still change before opening. This year marks the festival's 30th anniversary, and Disney is celebrating by bringing back or reimagining 30 fan-favorite dishes from festivals gone by.
