Disneyland Keeps Its Promise: Entrance Demolition Underway

Disneyland Resort isn't wasting any time. Just days after paperwork confirmed the plan, bulldozers and construction walls have already landed near the entrance of the original Disney theme park.

Disneyland Resort filed a construction permit on Tuesday, alerting local officials to its intent to tear down four ticket booths, each roughly 700 square feet, located on the eastern side of the esplanade separating Disneyland Park from Disney California Adventure Park.

The booths have become increasingly obsolete as more Disney Park guests purchase admission online well before their trip, reducing the need for in-person ticket windows. Removing these four structures marks the first step toward a much larger project: a pedestrian bridge connecting the esplanade to a brand-new parking structure and transportation hub.

That parking structure is set to rise on the site currently used as the Manchester cast member lot along Disney Way. Once finished, it will offer 6,000 parking spaces and 302 EV charging stations, along with designated zones for rideshare drop-off, shuttle service, security operations, and traffic flow.

Disneyland Resort has gone this route before. Last year, two ticket booths on the esplanade's Western side came down to clear space for Porto's Bakery in the Downtown Disney District. Guests hoping to buy tickets in person haven't lost that option, though — two ticket booths remain open, and admission can also be purchased at the Lost and Found office.

The demolition permit had barely settled before signs of actual work appeared. On August 20, WDWNT reported that construction walls had gone up around all four Eastern-side ticket booths.

At this stage, the booths themselves are still peeking out above the barriers, and their rooflines remain lit with the decorative lights guests are used to seeing. Disneyland Resort hasn't released a timeline for when the demolition will wrap up.
