Marvel may have found another way to keep moviegoers in theaters while building anticipation for its next massive Avengers release.
Just days after Avengers Endgame: Encore (2026) delivered an impressive return at the box office, a new report claims another Marvel blockbuster could get similar treatment.
This time, a particular Spider-Man film may be heading back to theaters with something audiences didn't get to see the first time around.
And with Avengers: Doomsday (2026) arriving on December 18, the timing of a possible expanded release creates another interesting question.
Could Marvel use Spider-Man's return to keep building toward its next Avengers movie?
Spider-Man Is Already Breaking Records
Sony doesn't exactly need to rescue Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) at the box office.
The movie has earned approximately $2.495 billion worldwide, with $950.7 million coming from North America. Those numbers make it the highest-grossing movie ever domestically and the third-highest-grossing film worldwide.
It also officially stands as Sony's biggest movie ever.
That record previously belonged to Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), which finished with approximately $1.92 billion globally.
Now, Brand New Day sits within striking distance of another milestone. With its theatrical run continuing, an expanded version could potentially carry the movie beyond $2.5 billion worldwide.
Marvel and Disney just received a pretty convincing reminder that audiences will return for something they've already watched.
Endgame Just Made Another $86 Million
Avengers Endgame: Encore (2026) delivered an enormous weekend after returning to theaters with expanded material.
The release earned $86 million globally, including $26 million domestically. That pushed Endgame‘s lifetime worldwide total to approximately $2.885 billion.
It still trails Avatar (2009), which has earned approximately $2.92 billion, but the re-release accomplished more than adding millions to an already massive box-office total.
Marvel also used it to promote Avengers: Doomsday (2026).
With that movie arriving on December 18, Endgame gave fans another Avengers experience while attention turns toward what comes next.
A reported Spider-Man re-release could create another opportunity to do something similar.
Deleted Scenes and More Marvel Cameos
The biggest reason for fans to revisit Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) may be the additional footage.
Sources claim an expanded release would restore previously unseen material, including a scene involving Rosario Dawson's Claire Temple.
Dawson played Claire throughout Marvel's street-level shows, appearing in Daredevil (2015), Jessica Jones (2015), Luke Cage (2016), Iron Fist (2017), and The Defenders (2017). Her character often provided medical help to the heroes operating within that corner of Marvel's world.
Dawson previously revealed that she filmed a scene for Brand New Day, only for it to disappear from the theatrical cut.
An expanded version could finally put that footage in front of audiences. Reports suggest Claire Temple may not be the only surprise, either.
Could the New Footage Connect to Doomsday?
Claire Temple's appearance doesn't mean Dawson will suddenly show up in Avengers: Doomsday (2026) or Avengers: Secret Wars (2027).
There is currently nothing confirming that connection.
Marvel may simply have deleted footage that would have provided an easy reason for fans to buy another ticket. Restoring a recognizable character who didn't appear in the original cut could accomplish that on its own.
Still, the timing leaves room for speculation.
Daredevil or Claire Temple could theoretically appear in Doomsday, especially as Marvel brings different characters and corners of its universe together. But Dawson's deleted Brand New Day scene isn't evidence of either possibility.
The more interesting question may involve what else Marvel could add.
Marvel Has Plenty of Ways to Tease What's Next
Previously unseen scenes could add context to storylines that matter later or place more importance on Brand New Day‘s end-credit scenes.
Marvel wouldn't necessarily need a major new sequence to establish a stronger connection to Doomsday. A conversation, another hero, or a small clue about Spider-Man's future could take on greater importance as December 18 approaches.
Then again, none of the added footage may connect to Doomsday at all.
What we do know is that Endgame just showed how much interest an expanded Marvel re-release can generate.
Now, a $2.495 billion Spider-Man movie could be next.
If Sony moves forward with the reported expanded release, unseen footage already gives fans a reason to return. If Marvel also finds a way to tease its next Avengers blockbuster, the timing becomes even harder to ignore.
