Reports Confirm Pop Century Change at Disney World Resort

Construction walls aren’t the only sign of change at Disney’s Pop Century Resort—one of its most recognizable icons is now in the middle of a noticeable transformation.

The towering “POP” sign outside Classic Hall is currently undergoing refurbishment, and guests passing through the area will see that it’s far from its usual bright and polished look. Sitting between the main lobby and the lively Hippy Dippy Pool, the sign has long been a defining feature of the resort’s colorful atmosphere.

Now, as reported by WDWNT, crews have begun removing layers of the sign’s orange paint. The sanding process has revealed more of the structure beneath, including panel outlines that aren’t usually visible. This has led to speculation that the work may involve more than just repainting, potentially including repairs or partial replacements.

The white trim and blue accents that frame the letters are also being addressed, leaving the entire installation looking faded and inconsistent during the refurbishment phase.

Guests can still walk through the area, though some precautions are in place. A green barrier has been installed in front of the first letter, and workers have been spotted actively working onsite. Meanwhile, the flowerbeds that normally decorate the base of the sign have been cleared out to make room for the project.

Interestingly, work is happening on both sides of the structure. The backs of the letters have also been sanded down, exposing gray patches along the bottom edges. That detail points to a more in-depth update rather than a quick refresh.

The project is just one example of ongoing improvements across Walt Disney World Resort hotels. Pop Century has already seen several changes over the past year, including updates to Classic Hall, where a new mural featuring Mickey Mouse and friends now greets guests. Rooms across the resort have also been refreshed as Disney continues upgrading its hotel resorts.

Pop Century stands out for its celebration of decades past, with each section themed to a different era from the 1950s to the 1990s. Giant props inspired by pop culture trends fill the property, making the “POP” sign one of its most recognizable landmarks.

Another key perk is transportation. The resort connects directly to the Disney Skyliner, offering guests easy access to EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. That convenience, combined with its price point and energetic design, helps keep Pop Century high on many travelers’ lists. The Skyliner has already announced its next annual closure in January 2027.

While the sign may not look camera-ready at the moment, the work suggests Disney is continuing to refresh its classic elements. Guests visiting soon can expect to watch the transformation unfold as the sign gradually returns to its bright and welcoming appearance.

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his favorite TV show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer except when it's One Tree Hill. He loves sandy beach walks, forest hikes, and foodie days out in the Big City. Thomas lives in England, UK, with his fiancée, baby, and their dog, a Border Collie called Luna.
