Disneyland Resort has announced that all runDisney races will be placed on indefinite hiatus beginning in 2026, following the conclusion of the 2026 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend. This move is attributed to the upcoming construction impacts associated with the DisneylandForward expansion project.
The Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend, scheduled from January 29 to February 1, 2026, will be the final runDisney event at the Southern California Disney destination for the foreseeable future. runDisney has stated that due to the anticipated construction, they will be unable to provide the race experience that participants have come to expect. However, the organization will continue to offer races at Walt Disney World Resort and virtual events.
The DisneylandForward initiative, approved by the Anaheim City Council in May 2024, aims to reimagine the Disneyland Resort by adding new attractions, hotels, and entertainment venues. While the full scope of the project is still in development, early construction activities are expected to impact areas traditionally used for runDisney races, such as parking lots and access routes.
This hiatus marks the second time in recent history that Disneyland Resort has suspended runDisney events. The first suspension occurred in 2017 due to construction plans, and races returned in 2024. Now, with the DisneylandForward project underway, the hiatus is set to continue beyond 2026.
runDisney events at Walt Disney World Resort remain unaffected and continue to offer a variety of race options, though they often sell out in minutes. Virtual races provide an alternative for participants seeking the runDisney experience outside of California.
