runDisney recently shared the news that a brand new “Springtime Surprise Weekend” would be part of their race offerings going forward, and today we learned the details of what kind of surprises runners can expect for the first version of this event!
Springtime Surprise Weekend will be an annual event offering different race themes each year for participating runners. The first event, will take place April 1-3, 2022, and will feature nostalgic races from past runDisney events!
Runners will be able to relive races from years past including the Expedition Everest 5K, Race for the Taste 10K, and the Tower of Terror 10-Miler, or experience these events for the first time if they missed when when they were previously offered.
The Expedition Everest 5K will take place on April 1, 2022, and will feature a nighttime 5K as was offered in the past along with a scavenger hunt. This time around however, the scavenger hunt will be conducted during the 5K.
The Race for the Taste 10K will “run” April 2, and is set to be very similar to how this race was done in the past with an extra celebration involved for Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in EPCOT.
Lastly, the Tower of Terror 10 Miler will follow a similar course as it had in previous years but will take place in the morning instead of kicking off at night.
The Springtime Surprise Challenge will also be available to register for runners who participate in all three events totaling 19.3 miles. Those who complete the challenge will receive an additional exclusive medal. runDisney will also host a sunrise yoga event in front of Cinderella Castle for runners to kick off the weekend!
Registration opens December 9, 2021 on rundisney.com for the Springtime Surprise Weekend. Virtual races are on the weekend agenda, too, so if you can’t make it to Walt Disney World in April, keep an eye out on rundisney.com for virtual registration!
