‘She-Hulk’ Returning Later This Year With a Big Twist

She-Hulk is making a comeback, but not in the way fans might expect.

Following a divisive run with her live-action Disney+ series, Jennifer Walters is set to return in a new comic series that promises to shake things up in the She-Hulk universe.

The upcoming series, “Planet She-Hulk,” is part of the “Imperial” storyline. Announced during Marvel Comics’ Next Big Thing panel at this year's San Diego Comic-Con (via Marvel.com), it will see She-Hulk thrown into the chaos of Sakaar, the dangerous planet where Bruce Banner/Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) becomes a gladiator in Thor: Ragnarok (2017).

Jennifer Walters' new adventure marks quite the tonal shift from the light-hearted and comedic nature of the She-Hulk: Attorney at Law TV series that premiered in 2022.

Writer Stephanie Phillips has teased a big, bold adventure with influences from epic stories like Game of Thrones, and fans can expect to see She-Hulk wielding a giant sword in a world full of rebels, witches, and cannibals.

“I’m so excited,” Phillips said. “Working with [artist] Aaron [Kuder] is so exciting, it’s fantastic. [For “Planet She-Hulk”], think big Game of Thrones. Think things not always related to She-Hulk. She’s ripped into a world that she’s not used to, and she has to bring her own sensibilities to it when she’s now facing witches, rebels, and cannibals… it’s going to be great. We wanted to go big. She’s got a giant sword, PLEASE let us use it.”

The live-action She-Hulk series left many fans frustrated with its humor, the handling of the title character (which included the CG), and the use of fourth-wall-breaking moments. However, “Planet She-Hulk” promises to deliver a more serious, high-stakes story, offering fans a more traditional She-Hulk experience, complete with epic battles and cosmic scale.

“Planet She-Hulk” promises to be a game-changer, drawing on the character's roots while pushing her into uncharted territories.

The new series forms part of Marvel Comics’ “Imperial” storyline, which will include other major titles. The comic book will launch this November alongside “Nova Centurion”, with “Black Panther: Intergalactic,” “Exiles,” and “Imperial Guardians” set to follow.
