Disney World Confirms Removal of Theme Park Photography Experience

Seven months of stillness behind a curtain inside Sir Mickey's at Magic Kingdom Park came to an end this week, as the first physical signs of construction have finally appeared.

The PhotoPass studio tucked inside the Fantasyland gift shop closed in September 2025, quietly disappearing alongside changes to the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique experience. Where Magic Kingdom Park guests once posed for photographs after their princess or prince makeover, they now head directly to a meet-and-greet with the Fairy Godmother instead. A curtain has concealed the former photography space ever since, with no visible work taking place on the other side.

That didn't mean nothing was happening on paper. Walt Disney World Resort filed construction permits for the space — plans that included installing set and prop elements, scenic design, and a six-foot wall. But for months, there was nothing concrete to show for it at the park level.

Poles Above the Curtain

On April 15, WDWNT reported a change: five tall white poles have appeared rising above the curtains that block the former studio from view inside Sir Mickey's. The poles don't extend all the way to the ceiling, but their positioning suggests they could be the early framework for the wall referenced in the previously filed permits.

The rest of Sir Mickey's remains fully open for shopping. Walt Disney World Resort has not commented on the construction activity or revealed what the space will ultimately become. One possibility is that the area will be converted into a backstage zone for Disney cast members rather than a guest-facing experience, though that has not been confirmed.
