Spaceship Earth Now Changed During EPCOT Location Closure

Exciting things are happening at EPCOT, as Walt Disney World Resort prepares to welcome back one of its most beloved attractions: Spaceship Earth. The attraction, located in World Celebration, has been closed since late August for scheduled updates, and guests won’t have to wait long to experience it again when it reopens on October 25.

This latest refurbishment began after the final day of operation on August 24, 2025, and has included both interior and exterior enhancements. Among the visible updates is a refreshed coat of paint around the attraction’s entrance. WDWNT reports that the once bluish framing walls now feature brighter gray and white tones, offering a sleeker, more modern appearance that fits seamlessly within EPCOT’s contemporary style.

Spaceship Earth itself is a marvel of design—an 180-foot-tall geodesic sphere made up of over 11,000 triangular panels. Since EPCOT’s opening in 1982, it has served as both a visual icon and a storytelling experience, inviting guests to travel through the evolution of human communication, from early cave drawings to the digital age. Inside, Audio-Animatronic scenes highlight pivotal inventions like the alphabet, the printing press, and the computer.

Over the years, the attraction has featured narration by notable voices including Lawrence Dobkin, Walter Cronkite, Jeremy Irons, and Dame Judi Dench. Each iteration has introduced new visuals and technologies to reflect advancements in storytelling and innovation.

While EPCOT has experienced fewer sweeping changes than some of the other Walt Disney World parks, updates like this ensure that it remains a place where progress meets imagination. Alongside projects such as the reimagined Test Track, the continuing evolution of Spaceship Earth keeps the park’s original vision alive—celebrating human creativity and discovery.

Guests visiting EPCOT later this month will once again be able to journey through time inside the park’s signature sphere as Spaceship Earth reopens for its next era.

Thomas Hitchen

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his favorite TV show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer except when it's One Tree Hill. He loves sandy beach walks, forest hikes, and foodie days out in the Big City. Thomas lives in England, UK, with his fiancée, baby, and their dog, a Border Collie called Luna.
