While fans in the United States have said their goodbyes to Splash Mountain, Tokyo Disneyland’s version of the iconic log flume ride is still going strong. This summer, the final Splash Mountain ride in the world is set to get a seasonal makeover as part of Tokyo Disney Resort’s Summer Cool-Off event.
Tokyo Disneyland, operated by the Oriental Land Company under license from The Walt Disney Company, is currently the only Disney park still operating Splash Mountain. The versions at Disneyland Resort in California and Walt Disney World Resort in Florida closed in 2024 to make way for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, a The Princess and the Frog (2009) retheme of the log flume ride. In the updated attraction, guests help Princess Tiana (Anika Noni Rose), Prince Naveen (Bruno Campos), Mama Odie (Jenifer Lewis), and Louis (Michael-Leon Wooley) throw a celebration in true New Orleans style.
In the U.S., the retheme followed years of controversy over Splash Mountain’s inspiration, Song of the South (1946). The film has long been criticized and effectively banned for its problematic portrayal of the post-Civil War South and its harmful stereotypes. Since Tokyo Disney Resort is managed independently, it was unaffected by The Walt Disney Company’s decision to reimagine the attraction elsewhere.
This summer, Tokyo Disney Resort is introducing a special version of the ride called “Get Soaked MAX Plus,” building on a previous overlay known as “Get Soaked MAX.” The enhanced experience will feature even more dramatic water effects, designed to drench riders and even nearby onlookers.
The “Get Soaked MAX Plus” overlay will be part of the Summer Cool-Off event, which takes place across Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea from July 2 through September 15, 2025. Other attractions that are getting the cool treatment include Aquatopia, which will offer a “Get Soaked” mode, as well as misting and splash zones in Toontown, Adventureland, Harbor Splash, and the Caldera Corridor.
