A digital map update at Disneyland Paris Resort just cost one loyal Stormtrooper his post, and Disney Parks fans are already holding a small funeral for the Star Wars character.
A New Map at Disneyland Park

Earlier in March, Disneyland Paris Resort rolled out updated digital theme park maps across its official apps, ditching the previous 3-D-rendered style in favor of a 2-D-drawn look more in line with what guests see on the Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort apps. X (formerly known as Twitter) user @DLPReport was among the first to document the shift, sharing side-by-side comparisons of the old and new maps:

The redesign didn’t land without controversy. Disney Parks fans quickly raised eyebrows over the possibility that the new maps were AI-generated from Google Maps aerial imagery — a suspicion fueled by a telling detail: several areas near “it’s a small world” appeared to show drawn versions of social distancing stickers that Disneyland Paris Resort removed from the ground years ago, yet still appear on Google Maps satellite views. Disney Fanatic covered those allegations when they first surfaced.
RIP, Mr. Stormtrooper

Now there’s a new reason to mourn the update. Sharp-eyed European Disney Parks fans noticed that the redesigned illustration of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is missing something the old map quietly tucked in: a Stormtrooper hidden at the base of the mountain, seemingly along for the ride on the Frontierland coaster. X user @Seb_in_DLP preserved the moment with a screenshot of the now-gone Easter egg:

The Stormtrooper does not appear anywhere on the current version of the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad illustration in the Disneyland Paris Resort app. The European vacation destination has not addressed the omission or indicated whether the Star Wars character will return in a future map update.
