‘Star Wars’ Location At Capacity, Orlando Theme Park Full

This is what May the 4th looks like when it fully arrives.

Kevin Heimbach, posting on X as @kevinHeimbach13, shared a photo from inside Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Disney's Hollywood Studios tonight that captured something that has never been more visible: the courtyard near Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run has been closed to additional guests because it has reached capacity. His caption was exactly as emphatic as the moment deserved: “The Courtyard Is At CAPACITY!!!!!”

The area in question is the open plaza near the Millennium Falcon entrance that Star Wars fans have claimed as their unofficial gathering spot on May the 4th. Nobody at Disney scheduled this. Nobody planned a show here or announced it as a ticketed event.

What happens in that courtyard every year on Star Wars Day is entirely fan-created: people show up with their lightsabers, they find each other in the shadow of the most iconic spacecraft in science fiction history at full scale, and they make something together that no park event could script. The glow of hundreds of lightsabers in that space after dark is one of the genuinely remarkable recurring moments in modern theme park culture.

Tonight, more fans showed up than the courtyard could hold.

Everything That Led to This Moment

The courtyard reaching capacity did not happen independently of everything else going on at Hollywood Studios today. It was the end result of a park that has been at its absolute limit since early morning.

Disney's Hollywood Studios sold out of park reservations for May 4, 2026, producing one of the most heavily attended Star Wars Day celebrations the park has seen. A sold-out Hollywood Studios on May the 4th means a Galaxy's Edge running at the kind of density that the land's designers could not have fully anticipated when they built it.

Every guest who came specifically for this date, with costumes ready and spending plans set, compressed into the land over the course of the day and stayed there.

The exclusive food and merchandise pushed the crowd dynamics further. The 11 special Star Wars snacks available only on May the 4th created their own movement patterns across the land. Pink Milk at the Milk Stand. The Kamino Cooler at Oga's Cantina, made with Tito's Handmade Vodka, Bols Blue Curacao Liqueur, passion fruit syrup, Dole Pineapple Juice, and lime juice, in a DJ R-3X Souvenir Mug.

Ettel Nuts at beverage carts around Galaxy's Edge. The Your Chosen Path Cupcake at Backlot Express, a cookies-and-cream cupcake with marshmallow buttercream and a white chocolate X-Wing containing a secret lightsaber color, each pulling guests to specific locations and keeping them in the land longer.

Exclusive merchandise including the Salvaged Protocol Droid Bucket, Bantha Sipper, DJ R-3X Mug, and Jabba's Sail Barge Bucket, spread across multiple park locations including the Vacation Fun theater that Disney transformed into a dedicated May the 4th merchandise space, added another layer of movement across the park.

All of that crowd, by evening, had settled into Galaxy's Edge. And the fans who came specifically for the courtyard gathering with their lightsabers brought the space to its limit.

What the Courtyard Actually Represents

It is worth pausing on what exactly reached capacity tonight, because it is not a Disney experience. It is a fan experience that happens to occur inside a Disney park.

The courtyard near the Millennium Falcon has no official programming associated with it on May the 4th. Disney does not organize the lightsaber gathering. There is no ticketed component, no announced start time, no performer.

What happens there is the Star Wars fan community deciding, collectively and informally over years of tradition, that this is the place they come to be with each other on the one day a year that belongs to them. The Millennium Falcon as backdrop is not incidental. The ship at full scale, in a space designed to feel like a real outpost in a galaxy far, far away, gives the gathering a physical weight that a convention center floor never could.

When cast members close that area because it has reached capacity, they are responding to the size of a fan tradition that has grown beyond what the space was designed to contain. That is a remarkable thing for any voluntary community gathering to achieve.

What This Means for Guests Right Now and Future Visitors

For guests currently inside the park who want access to the courtyard, the capacity situation is managed in real time. Guests cycle through the area and space opens up as people leave. The restriction is not permanent for the evening, and checking with cast members at the courtyard entrance about the current wait for entry is the most direct way to get accurate information about when access will become available again.

For guests planning a future May the 4th visit at Hollywood Studios and using tonight as a reference for what to expect, the courtyard reaching capacity by evening is now documented and confirmed.

The practical implication is that arriving in Galaxy's Edge before dark, ideally well before the fan gathering reaches its peak in the evening hours, is the most reliable way to access the courtyard on this specific date without running into a capacity restriction.

The rest of Galaxy's Edge, including Rise of the Resistance, Smugglers Run, Oga's Cantina, and all food and merchandise locations, continues operating regardless of what happens in the courtyard. The capacity situation is geographically specific.

For guests who have been inside the park all day and are still there tonight, this is one of the most electric evenings that Walt Disney World produces in an entire calendar year, and the courtyard capacity is evidence of that rather than a reason to leave.

If you are at Hollywood Studios tonight and the courtyard is capped, ask a cast member at the entrance about the current status. People leave and space opens. If tonight's scene is your first look at what May the 4th in Galaxy's Edge actually produces, save this for reference when you are planning next year.

Arriving before dark and staking out the courtyard before it fills is the lesson from this evening. The My Disney Experience app has live crowd information to help you navigate the rest of the land in the meantime.
