‘Star Wars’ Next Series Brings Back Familiar Actors in New Roles

Several familiar voices from the faraway galaxy are returning in Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord—but not as the characters fans remember them playing.

The newly released official trailer for the upcoming animated Disney+ series recently premiered. According to StarWars.com, Shadow Lord is set after the events of The Clone Wars and follows Maul as he attempts to rebuild his criminal syndicate on a planet named Janix, which is untouched by the Empire, where he encounters a disillusioned Jedi Padawan who may become his apprentice.

While Sam Witwer is reprising his role as Maul after his work in The Clone Wars and Rebels, the lineup is packed with franchise veterans taking on entirely new roles.

Dennis Haysbert and Charlie Bushnell round out the cast as Master Eeko-Dio-Daki and Rylee Lawson, respectively. And at the center of the series is Witwer, returning once again as the fallen Sith, Maul.

Developed by Dave Filoni and Matt Michnovetz, the series expands Maul’s story into the post-Clone Wars underworld. Maul – Shadow Lord premieres with a two-episode event on April 6, 2026, with episodes releasing weekly through May 4 on Disney+.

A five-issue Marvel Comics prequel, Star Wars: Shadow of Maul, arrives in March 2026.
