New Casting Call Reveals ‘Stranger Things’ Character Recast, Plot Updated

Netflix's Stranger Things is set for a massive return, with a recasting announcement adding to the growing excitement for its much-anticipated fifth season. As the show nears its epic conclusion, it has already become a pop culture phenomenon, solidifying its place as one of Netflix’s most popular series.

By the time the new season drops, it will have been over three years since the heart-pounding conclusion of Season 4, which took viewers deeper into the tragic backstory of Henry Creel, later known as One, and ultimately, Vecna (played by Jamie Campbell Bower). That season also saw Eleven, portrayed by Millie Bobby Brown, grow in her powers while battling her darkest foe yet.

Season 5 promises a thrilling conclusion that fans will talk about for years. Written and directed by The Duffer Brothers, the show's creators, it will kick off with “Chapter 1: The Crawl.”

While fans can expect the return of beloved characters like Eleven and Vecna, the ensemble cast will also reunite, featuring Winona Ryder (Joyce Byers), David Harbour (Jim Hopper), Finn Wolfhard (Mike Wheeler), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin Henderson), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas Sinclair), Noah Schnapp (Will Byers), and more. The cast also includes Sadie Sink as Max Mayfield, Joe Keery as Steve Harrington, Charlie Heaton as Jonathan Byers, Natalia Dyer as Nancy Wheeler, and Maya Hawke as Robin Buckley, among others.

One of the newest cast additions is none other than action star Linda Hamilton. While early fan theories suggested that she might be playing an older version of Eleven, it has been revealed that the Terminator legend will take on the role of a doctor in the series.

In a recent casting call announcement, it was confirmed that the character of Sara, Hopper's daughter, will also return in Season 5, though the role will be recast. Sara Hopper, originally portrayed by Elle Graham, appeared in flashbacks in Season 1, and a new child actress is being sought to match her likeness. Sara’s reappearance suggests that the new season will likely feature more flashbacks, adding emotional depth to Hopper’s character as viewers revisit his tragic past.

“Today, we at Knight Edge Media have learned a casting call has gone out for the role of Sara, the daughter of Hopper previously seen in season 1 of Stranger Things,” reports Knight Edge Media. “The character had already passed away by the time we meet Hopper in the first season. However, the casting call is looking for a child actress who looks similar to the original actress Elle Graham.”

The casting call for Sara Hopper is as follows:

[ SARA ] – Character is portrayed as 5 years old, female, white, blonde and blue/grey eyes. Sara is Hopper’s daughter seen in flashbacks. MUST MATCH TO SEASON 1 CAST MEMBER ELLE GRAHAM…CO-STAR

Fans will have to be patient for this final chapter, as production delays occurred due to the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) strikes in 2023. Despite the setbacks, there is plenty for fans to look forward to. The new season will feature eight episodes, which Maya Hawke described as “basically eight movies.”

David Harbour recently revealed to People how emotional the table reading for the final episode of Stranger Things 5 was for the cast. As he put it, the entire cast was moved to tears by the script, with emotions peaking as they reached the final moments of the show.

While the final season’s plot remains tightly under wraps, Gaten Matarazzo, who plays Dustin Henderson, hinted that fans can expect plenty of heartache. According to him, the familiar adventure-filled vibe will be there, but there will also be some heavy blows for the group as they continue to confront the terrifying forces of the Upside Down.

For those needing a taste of the Upside Down before Season 5 hits, Stranger Things: The First Shadow, a prequel production, is currently running in London’s West End. It is set to debut on Broadway in the spring of 2025, offering fans another layer to the ever-expanding Stranger Things universe.
