Is Miley Cyrus stepping back on set to head to the Upside Down? Netflix says yes.
Miley Cyrus is a name synonymous with evolution. A multi-faceted talent who has captivated audiences for over two decades, her journey transcends the typical child star narrative.
Born Destiny Hope Cyrus in 1992, Miley inherited a musical legacy. Her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, was already a country music star. It was no surprise then, that Miley’s artistic inclinations emerged early. She began acting at a young age, landing a recurring role on her father’s television series Doc. The turning point came in 2006 when she was cast as the lead in Disney’s Hannah Montana. This show catapulted her to international fame.
Cyrus’s portrayal of Miley Stewart, a teenager with a secret popstar life as Hannah Montana, resonated with millions. The series spawned successful soundtrack albums, concert tours, and a wave of merchandise. Miley became a teen idol, and her image was carefully curated by Disney.
As Miley transitioned into adulthood, she sought creative liberation. Her 2010 album “Can’t Be Tamed” marked a departure from her Disney persona, showcasing a more mature and provocative sound. This shift in image culminated in 2013 with the release of “Wrecking Ball” and its controversial music video.
Cyrus’s performances during this era were known for their outrageous theatrics and bold experimentation. Albums like “Bangerz” (2013) cemented her status as a pop iconoclast, pushing boundaries and challenging societal norms.
Miley’s personal life has also been under constant public scrutiny. Her on-again, off-again relationship with actor Liam Hemsworth garnered significant media attention. They married in 2018 but divorced two years later. Cyrus is a vocal advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and has spoken openly about her gender fluidity.
Miley Cyrus continues to evolve both musically and personally. Her 2023 album “Endless Summer Vacation” marked a return to her pop roots, garnering critical acclaim and widespread popularity. The album’s lead single, “Flowers,” topped the Billboard Hot 100 for eight weeks, solidifying her place as a chart-topping Grammy winning artist.
Miley Cyrus remains a powerful voice in the music industry, unafraid to challenge expectations and embrace artistic freedom. With her recent Grammy wins and critically acclaimed music, she continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
Now, it appears Netflix wants a piece of the Cyrus fame and talent.
For years now, Cyrus has not appeared in a major movie or show in person, focusing on her music, but that may change with Stranger Things 5.
Stranger Things 5 will be the final installment of the Duffer brothers franchise that has captivated millions for years, with billions of watch-hours recorded for the streaming platform.
Hawkins, Indiana – a town seemingly ripped from a Norman Rockwell painting. White picket fences, manicured lawns, and kids riding bikes paint a picture of idyllic Americana. But beneath this postcard veneer lurks a horrifying secret – a gateway to a monstrous dimension known as the Upside Down. This chilling reality becomes the stomping ground for an unforgettable band of misfits: Mike, Eleven, Dustin, Lucas, Max, and Will.
Stranger Things has transcended the realm of television, morphing into a global phenomenon. Viewer estimates suggest a staggering 252 million people have binged the entire series – a number surpassing the combined populations of the US and Canada!
Led by a phenomenal young cast – Millie Bobby Brown’s enigmatic Eleven, Finn Wolfhard’s determined Mike, and Noah Schnapp’s vulnerable Will – the show has catapulted them to international stardom. Seasoned actors like Winona Ryder (Joyce Byers) and David Harbour (Jim Hopper) further elevate the narrative with their powerful performances, adding depth and emotional weight.
Season four unleashed their most formidable foe yet: Vecna, a creature synonymous with both a chilling name and a terrifying backstory (alias Henry Creel). The Hawkins crew’s valiant fight forever altered their quaint town, leaving it fractured and vulnerable to the Upside Down’s influence.
The season’s heart-stopping finale scattered the Hawkins gang across the globe. Each, unknowingly, played a crucial role in their desperate plan to vanquish the villainous Vecna. Back in Hawkins, the courageous Max served as bait, luring Vecna’s mind into the Creel House.
Meanwhile, deep within the Upside Down’s nightmarish realm, Robin, Steve, and Nancy discovered and set ablaze Vecna’s monstrous physical form.
A world away in Nevada, Mike and Will knew Eleven needed to regain her strength. With ingenuity, they built a makeshift sensory deprivation tank. This allowed her consciousness to project back to Max, aiding her in the psychic battle against Vecna. Despite their valiant efforts, a chilling truth emerges from Will at the episode’s end – Vecna lives.
“Now that I’m back, in Hawkins, I can feel him. And he’s hurt, he’s hurting, but he’s still alive. It’s strange knowing now who it was this whole time. But I can still remember what he thinks and how he thinks. He’s not gonna stop, ever, not until he’s taken everything… everyone… We have to kill him,” Will said at the end of season 4.
This ominous declaration foreshadows a full-circle moment, a chilling callback to season one when Will first encountered Vecna in the Upside Down.
Filming for the show’s final season is underway, much to the delight of fans worldwide. However, a recent writer’s strike caused a production delay. The show is now slated to wrap filming in January 2025, marking a year of continuous production.
While a premiere date remains shrouded in mystery, a late 2025 release on Netflix seems likely. The wait will be agonizing, but one thing is certain: the fate of Hawkins, and the world, hinges on the outcome of this final showdown.
Now, Miley superfan, Mileyola, shared that Netflix is eyeing the actress to appear in season 5, “According to Netflix, Miley Cyrus will make an appearance in the final season of Stranger Things. “Miley is very excited about her return to TV and she’s all set to play Vecna’s love interest from the upside down world” said a source close to Cyrus.”

While Stranger Things filming is well underway at this point, with a wrap date of January 2025, there is still tons of time to add Cyrus into the show. We have seen Miley pop into movies and shows as a quick cameo, for example, High School Musical 2 as an added extra in the final dance number, or the recent film Drive-Away Dolls starring Pedro Pascal, where she plays an uncredited character named Tiffany.
Funny enough, Jamie Campbell Bower, who plays the demon king of the Upside Down, revealed in a new interview which song would protect him from his own character, and in the end, had to go with Miley Cyrus‘ 2009 hit “Party In The USA.”
“If I’m being cheeky and fun, it would be Miley Cyrus ‘Party In The USA,’” he told ET Canada. So, a connection with Vecna is already in motion!
Millie Bobby Brown has also said she was inspired by Miley Cyrus’ performance on Hannah Montana.
“I watched Bugsy Malone and The Godfather when I was like 8. And I was like, but Hannah Montana is Oscar-nominating. It’s so good. Hannah Montana is the best. Like the film, everything. Everything about it is amazing. And I got the American accent.”
Brown was recently on a hiatus from Stranger Things and was found at Disney; now she has had a secret wedding with her new husband, Jake Bongiovi. It is not confirmed when she will return to the set (if she has not yet already).
In a recent interview with Collider, the Stranger Things creators dropped a tantalizing hint about the show’s final season. Will Byers, who has been central to the Upside Down mystery since the very beginning, is poised to take center stage.
Season 5 promises to be a full-circle journey, revisiting themes and plot points that resonated with fans back in season one. This shift in focus suggests a deeper exploration of Will’s connection to the Upside Down and the lingering trauma he’s endured.
Matt Duffer stated,“We’re starting to see his coming of age, really, which has been challenging for a number of reasons, some of which are supernatural. But you’re starting to see him come into his own. I think you’ll see that with a couple of the character arcs, not just with Will,” Ross added.
“But also with Steve and Nancy, and her relationship with Jonathan, where things are not fully resolved. The characters have maybe made steps, like in the case of Will, but that journey isn’t over yet. All of that is going to play a huge role as we try to wrap this thing up next season.”
While details remain shrouded in secrecy, glimpses into the final season have emerged. Leaked prop photos hint at a time jump to 1987, a year after the events of season four. Additionally, the casting of Linda Hamilton alongside Millie Bobby Brown (both portraying Eleven) suggests a potential second-time jump within the season itself. This intriguing casting choice has fans buzzing with speculation about the narrative possibilities.
