Few TV shows have had the cultural reach of The Simpsons. Since 1989, the animated sitcom has parodied American life across more than 750 episodes, won dozens of awards, and given the world an endless stream of quotable one-liners and beloved characters.
Following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2019, the entire series now streams on Disney+, cementing its place within the company’s massive entertainment portfolio.

Now, The Simpsons is stepping back into the world of gaming. A brand-new trailer for “Fortnite × The Simpsons: Welcome to Springfield” gives us our first proper look at a fully realized three-dimensional version of Springfield (known in the game as Springfield Island), complete with the Nuclear Power Plant, the Kwik-E-Mart, and the Simpson family home. The trailer opens with a near shot-for-shot re-creation of the classic TV intro before transitioning into gameplay footage that sees players dropped into Springfield.

This video game revival comes at an interesting time for the IP as a whole. Disney, which gained ownership of The Simpsons following its 2019 acquisition of Fox, recently confirmed that a new feature film is in the works, which is scheduled for release in 2027.
The studio has also been quietly reshaping how The Simpsons fits into its empire, from streaming exclusivity on Disney+ to ongoing speculation that the family could finally make their transition from Universal Studios and into Disney Parks once Universal’s current rights expire.

For now, fans can look forward to battling it out in the game, or enjoying one of the “original animated The Simpsons shorts highlighting new gameplay”, which you can find on Disney+ by searching for “The Simpsons” or heading to The Simpsons Collection.
The mini episodes are as follows, along with their release dates:
- November 1 – “Apocalypse D’Oh”
- November 10 – “Sugar High”
- November 17 – “Multiplidiocy”
- November 24 – “The Incredible Bulk”
Between the upcoming film and the immersive Fortnite event, The Simpsons continues to evolve while honoring its legacy.
What began as a simple animated sitcom more than three decades ago is now spanning mediums, genres, and generations — and Springfield has never looked more alive.
