There Are 20 Things You Have to Know About Walt Disney World

Walt Disney World is one of the most popular and most visited theme parks in the world. Located in Florida, it attracts millions of people annually and is a dream come true for many families.  If you will be visiting this magical Disney destination, there are some things you really need to know before you go.  Here are 20 interesting facts you should know.

1. Accommodations

There are literally hundreds of hotels, condominiums, and vacation rental properties near Walt Disney World Resort, including over 30 Walt Disney World Resort hotels.  The amenities and special perks that accompany Disney World hotels are awesome, so be sure to do your research on which hotel or rental property is right for you and your family or group.

2.  Weather

Florida weather is fairly predictable, and sometimes thunder storms and hurricanes do occur.  Generally, however, the summer months (June through September) can be challenging with highs in the 90’s and the humidity can be uncomfortable.  Typical afternoon showers are a pleasant relief from the heat. March, April, and May usually see highs in the low 80’s with less humidity, and October through February will see less rainfall, and the temperatures are the most moderate. *Hurricane Season—mid-August through late October*

3.  Security

There are bag checks at all theme park entrances and a noticeable presence of uniformed police officers, specially trained hazard detection canines to help patrol the parks.  Random checks are conducted by selecting guests for a secondary screening using metal detectors.  Don’t be alarmed.  These security measures insure the safety of every Disney World guest and cast member.

4.  Hours of Operation

Check online at the official Walt Disney World Websight for daily hours of operation, including Extra Magic Hours which are available for Disney World Hotel Resorts and select non-Disney owned hotels.  During the winter months some parks may close as early as 6:00pm, and in the summer months, as late as 3:00am.

5.  Transportation

If you are staying on an official Disney World Resort hotel, you will have access to bus, monorail, or water taxi transportation from your Resort to the four theme parks, water parks, and Disney Springs.  Disney is also adding a new Skyliner Gondola system connecting select Disney Resort hotels with select theme park entrances.  If you are staying off property, you can still take advantage of Disney transportation with your theme park tickets

Cecilia

I am a working mother of four adult children, 2 granddogs, and one grandcat. I have been a Disney fanatic since 1959, when my parents took my sister and I on a journey across the country to Disneyland. Needless to say, we were thrilled, and this became our vacation destination for the next 10 years. Later, when Walt Disney World was opened, we travelled to Florida and discovered a whole new Disney experience, and WDW became our new vacation destination. Now, our extended family members are all Disney Fanatics and always ready to talk about anything Disney.
