Princess and the Frog fans have been begging Disney to bring Charlotte “Lottie” La Bouff to the parks for literally years, and Disney finally listened. Sort of. Charlotte just made her Disneyland debut at Sweethearts’ Nite, but here’s the problem: you can only meet her if you pay for an expensive, separately ticketed after-hours event. Regular park guests with standard admission are completely shut out.
Charlotte Is Finally Here But There’s a Catch
Charlotte La Bouff appeared for the first time at Disneyland during Sweethearts’ Nite, which is one of the Disneyland After Dark evening events that happen after the park closes to regular guests. She’s doing meet and greets during this Valentine’s themed celebration, giving Princess and the Frog fans their first opportunity to actually interact with her at a Disney park.
But you can’t just show up during normal park hours and meet Charlotte. You need to purchase Sweethearts’ Nite tickets, which cost way more than standard Disneyland admission. If you’re visiting with regular tickets during the day, Charlotte is completely unavailable to you no matter how much you love The Princess and the Frog or how long you’ve been waiting for this character.
What Sweethearts’ Nite Actually Is
Disneyland After Dark events are separately ticketed themed evenings that run from 9 PM to 1 AM with pre-party park entry starting at 6 PM. You get access to attractions with shorter wait times, unique entertainment, rare character encounters, specialty food and drinks, exclusive merchandise, and unlimited Disney PhotoPass digital downloads.
Sweethearts’ Nite is the Valentine’s Day themed version with romantic entertainment and character appearances focused on beloved couples and duos. The 2026 event runs select nights in January and February featuring new stuff like the Celebrate Love Cavalcade parade, Once Upon a Dream musical show, Disney Duets karaoke at Golden Horseshoe, and a Valentine’s Dance Party with Donald and Daisy.
Character encounters at Sweethearts’ Nite have always included rare appearances you don’t see during regular park hours. Think Bernard and Bianca from The Rescuers, Esmerelda and Phoebus from Hunchback of Notre Dame, Meg and Hercules. These are characters who don’t regularly appear, which is part of what makes the after-hours events appealing to hardcore Disney fans.
Why Fans Are Frustrated
Charlotte La Bouff has been a heavily requested character among Princess and the Frog fans for years. Tiana shows up regularly at Disney parks and Dr. Facilier appears occasionally during special events, but basically every other character from the 2009 film has been absent from parks.
Charlotte is particularly popular because of her exuberant Southern belle personality, her genuine friendship with Tiana that crosses social class boundaries, and her crucial role in the happy ending when she kisses Naveen while still technically a princess and breaks the spell. Fans have created social media campaigns asking Disney to bring her to parks, and those requests have been ignored until now.
So Disney finally brings Charlotte to Disneyland, but instead of making her available during regular park hours where everyone can meet her, they put her exclusively at a separately ticketed event that costs significantly more money and only runs on select nights in January and February. If you’re visiting Disneyland any other month or you can’t afford the premium ticket price, you’re out of luck.
The Cost Problem With Disney
Disneyland After Dark tickets are expensive. Way more expensive than standard park admission. For guests who specifically want to meet Charlotte but don’t care about the other Sweethearts’ Nite offerings like specialty food or exclusive merchandise, paying premium prices for an entire after-hours event just to see one character feels like getting ripped off.
The limited event dates create scheduling problems too. Sweethearts’ Nite only happens on select nights in January and February 2026. If your Disneyland trip is scheduled for March or any other time of year, you have zero opportunity to meet Charlotte regardless of whether you’re willing to pay extra.
Disney’s Money Grab Strategy
From Disney’s perspective, this makes total financial sense. Offering exclusive character encounters at separately ticketed events creates additional value that justifies charging premium prices. Rare character appearances have become signature features of Disneyland After Dark events, and they drive ticket sales from fans desperate to meet characters who aren’t available during normal operations.
This strategy generates extra revenue beyond standard admission while creating artificial exclusivity that makes the events feel special. Characters like Charlotte function as bait to get Princess and the Frog enthusiasts to buy Sweethearts’ Nite tickets they might otherwise skip.
What Happens Next for Disney
There’s no announcement about whether Charlotte will appear at future Disneyland After Dark events, transition to regular park hours eventually, or stay exclusive to Sweethearts’ Nite. Disney hasn’t said anything about long-term plans for this character, so fans have no idea if this is a one-time thing or if Charlotte will become a recurring presence.
For now, if you want to meet Charlotte La Bouff at Disneyland, your only option is attending one of the select Sweethearts’ Nite dates and paying whatever Disney is charging for those premium tickets. It’s not ideal, but it’s better than nothing for fans who have been waiting years for this character to show up anywhere.
