The recent announcement of the character lineup for the upcoming Sweethearts’ Nite at Disneyland Resort has left many attendees feeling disappointed. This special event, known for its romantic atmosphere and exclusive character meet-and-greets, typically offers guests the chance to encounter a wide variety of Disney characters in a unique setting. However, this year’s limited roster has sparked frustration and disbelief among fans who expected more.
Numerous social media posts from guests have voiced their displeasure regarding the character offerings for Sweethearts’ Nite. The anticipation for this event usually builds around the allure of meeting characters not frequently available in the standard park experience. Yet, many feel that this year’s lineup fails to deliver the excitement of past events. One attendee remarked,

The list sucks… not many characters listed like last year’s. Hoping that this is only a teaser and that there will be more characters out than the ones listed

Alongside this disappointment, guests have begun making comparisons to previous years’ character rosters, which featured a more extensive variety of beloved Disney characters. Given the event’s history of surprise appearances, there remains hope among some attendees that more characters might be added as the date approaches, but uncertainty looms large.
Breakdown of the Character Lineup
This year’s confirmed character lineup for Sweethearts’ Nite features some familiar faces, including Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Winnie the Pooh, and Mickey Mouse with Minnie Mouse. However, the inclusion of these characters does not seem to evoke the same excitement as in the last year’s. Notable characters from previous events, such as Cinderella, Aladdin, and even classic Disney princesses, appear to be missing from this year’s offerings.

While the inclusion of lesser-known characters like Louis from The Princess and the Frog and Constance Hathaway adds a layer of niche representation, many attendees believe that a robust lineup of both well-known favorites and rare appearances is what truly defines the magic of Sweethearts’ Nite. The current roster has prompted discussions around Disney characters that fans hold dear, making the absence of these particular figures all the more pronounced.
With that in mind, the selected characters for the 2025 event seem to mix both classic Disney figures and niche choices. While this could appeal to some guests, it raises questions about whether or not this balance meets the expectations that have developed over time regarding Sweethearts’ Nite.
Expectations vs. Reality for the Event
As guests eagerly await the event, the contrast between expectations and reality seems to widen. Many attendees hold onto the hope that additional characters will be announced as the date nears, pushing the anticipation of Sweethearts Nite past its current limitations. Historically, Disney has been known to keep fans guessing with surprise character appearances, encouraging speculation and excitement.
In past years, Disneyland After Dark events, including Sweethearts’ Nite, have offered an abundance of character interactions. Guests would enjoy meeting an array of beloved figures, enhancing their experience, and justifying the investment in high-priced tickets. The memories and photos shared from those events built a deep connection to the magic of Disney.
Here we go again!!!! It doesn’t matter what Disney does or doesn’t do, there’s “ALWAYS” going to be people whining and complaining!!!!!! Sure the post-covid After Hours events at the parks haven’t been the same, but by now if you are a Die Hard Disney fan you should expect less for more! The best thing to do if you’re not happy, is don’t attend them! Stay Home!
