If you grew up with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, chances are you remember their golden era of arcade beat-’em-ups, console platformers, and the odd side-scroller that ate up hours of your childhood. Well, the heroes in a half-shell are back in a big way, and it’s starting to feel like the ‘90s all over again.
Thanks to a steady resurgence in comics, movies, and video games, TMNT is enjoying a new wave of mainstream popularity. Paramount’s 2023 animated hit Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem not only revived the franchise but secured an entire slate of upcoming projects, including a direct sequel, a 2D-animated series, and—perhaps most excitingly—a brand-new video game.

Over the last two years alone, the Turtles have made their presence known across multiple gaming platforms. The throwback-style brawler “Shredder’s Revenge” won over longtime fans with its nostalgic charm, while the mobile-exclusive “Splintered Fate” and arcade-inspired “Wrath of the Mutants” ensured that no platform was left out.
More recently, the side-scrolling action of the Mutant Mayhem spinoff “Mutants Unleashed” pushed the franchise in a fresh direction, proving that the Turtles can thrive in multiple genres. But it doesn’t stop there.
The TMNT crew has also ventured outside their usual stomping grounds, popping up as guest fighters in “Injustice 2” and collaborating with unexpected properties like “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II,” which saw their iconic nemesis, The Shredder, enter the battlefield. Now, in a move that nobody saw coming, the four Turtles themselves are officially set to join “Call of Duty: Warzone & Black Ops 6,” bringing their ninja skills to Activision’s high-intensity military shooter.
