Tokyo Disney Resort is shifting its focus toward attracting more international visitors over the next decade.
On Monday, the Oriental Land Company (OLC), which operates Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea under license from The Walt Disney Company, released its 2035 Long-Term Management Strategy document. This forward-looking document highlights OLC’s plans to attract more overseas guests and enhance its international offerings.
One of the primary objectives in OLC’s new strategy is to “strengthen [its] appeal” to international guests. The company aims to achieve this by expanding its collaboration with online travel agencies (OTAs) to offer more accessible booking options. Furthermore, OLC is looking to “expand [the] Tokyo Disney Resort Vacation Packages range for overseas guests,” in an effort to simplify travel for international visitors.
Currently, Tokyo Disney Resort offers a variety of Vacation Packages that are exclusive to overseas guests. These packages include Disney Resort hotel stays, theme park tickets, and other perks like exclusive themed merchandise and meal vouchers. Vacation Packages are in high demand and often sell out quickly, though they come at a premium price.
In addition to offering more tailored Vacation Packages, OLC plans to improve the online experience for international guests. While Tokyo Disney Resort’s website currently falls short in terms of user-friendliness for English-speaking visitors, the resort’s strategy includes strengthening its ties with travel agencies, which could streamline the booking process and make it easier for overseas tourists to secure their trips. Although it’s unclear whether OLC will overhaul the website, these improvements would certainly help create a more seamless experience for visitors from around the world.
OLC’s new strategy hints at creating more summer-exclusive events to attract guests during the hot summer months. The company is also looking to optimize existing offerings, including Disney Premier Access, to increase average sales per guest.
Recently, Tokyo Disney Resort has undergone significant changes, with new attractions like the Fantasy Springs area at Tokyo DisneySea, a Marvel overlay on “it’s a small world,” and the ongoing rebuild of Space Mountain. Looking forward, OLC has teased plans to replace several classic Adventureland attractions, such as Jungle Cruise and the Tiki Room, with new experiences inspired by Pixar’s Up (2009) and The Incredibles (2004). Additionally, the document hints at the possibility of building more Disney Resort hotels and even bringing a second Disney Cruise Line ship to Japan.
