What’s a Disney World trip without seeing Mickey Mouse? Sure he’s all over tons of park merchandise and makes appearances in the parks’ parades and shows, but what really makes a Mickey sighting special is during an up close meet and greet. Luckily, there are 10 locations around the Disney property where you can spend some one-on-one time with the mouse that started it all.
10. Hollywood and Vine – Disney’s Hollywood Studios
For a limited time from now until about mid-June 2015, you can see Jedi Mickey and several of his friends in their Star Wars gear in celebration of the upcoming Star Wars Weekends at Hollywood Studios. While this isn’t a year-round opportunity, fans get a chance to see Mickey in his Jedi outfit without having to wait on a long line. Reservations strongly recommended for this one.
9. Garden Grill – Epcot
For dinner at the Garden Grill restaurant, located in The Land Pavilion at Epcot, Mickey Mouse, Chip, Dale and other Disney characters join guests for a quick meet and greet during their meal. As the restaurant rotates around, the characters make the rounds as well for pictures and autographs. Here you can see Mickey and the gang in their country farming clothing.
8. Innoventions West – Ecpot
If you’re a Disney Visa card holder, you get exclusive access to a special meet and greet session. Simply go to Innoventions West, show your Disney Visa card to a Cast Member and get ready for your own private photo session with Mickey Mouse. (Sometimes it can be another character, but Mickey is often there.) Included with the exclusive access is a free 5×7 picture. If you’d like to purchase other sizes and copies, those are available as well.
7. Tusker House-Animal Kingdom
Another character dining experience that Mickey Mouse frequents is Tusker House in Animal Kingdom. Here, Mickey, Donald, and other characters greet guests in their safari gear during this buffet meal.
6. Mickey’s Backyard BBQ – Fort Wilderness Resort and Campgrounds
This all-you-can-eat experience is located at the Fort Wilderness Resort and Campgrounds near the Magic Kingdom resort area. During Mickey’s Backyard BBQ you’ll eat in an open-air pavilion with music, entertainment, and of course Mickey Mouse. Rope tricks and a country band take center stage as the characters mingle with guests during dancing and other fun activities.
5. Chef Mickey’s – Disney’s Contemporary Resort
Chef Mickey’s at the Contemporary is perhaps the most popular dining meet and greet featuring Mickey Mouse. With reservations selling out rather quickly, this buffet experience features Mickey in his chef hat and apron as he wanders from table to table ensuring guests are enjoying the dishes he and his team have prepared. You’ll come to see Mickey, but stay for the food as Chef Mickey’s can stand up on its own even without character dining.
4. The Character Spot – Epcot
Besides the Disney Visa meet and greet, any guest can see Mickey and his pals in Epcot at the Character Spot, also located at Innoventions. A Fastpass+ experience, you can see three characters at once, one of which will be the mouse himself. The other characters change throughout the day but can include Minnie, Donald, Goofy, Pluto, or Chip and Dale.
3. Adventurer’s Outpost – Animal Kingdom
Located on Discovery Island in Animal Kingdom, the Adventurer’s Outpost is where you can find Mickey and Minnie in their safari gear as they get ready to head out on another adventure. At their spot, pictures and postcards from past trips decorate the area and they love to show them off to their new friends. Just ask about them and see how they react.
2. The Magic of Disney Animation – Disney’s Hollywood Studios
If you’re looking to get a picture with Mickey Mouse in his Sorcerer’s Apprentice costume, there’s only one place to look. The Magic of Disney Animation building at Hollywood Studios is host of a number of different Disney and Pixar characters, including Sorcerer Mickey. While you’re here, you can also learn how to draw Mickey and other characters so you can show off your work. You can even get them to sign your artwork instead of an autograph book.
1. Town Square Theater – Magic Kingdom
Town Square Theater in Magic Kingdom, located right next to Tony’s restaurant, is where you can not only meet and get your picture taken with Mickey, but have an actual conversation with him. Here Mickey Mouse actually talks back to you. Sometimes he plays card tricks and sometimes he tells jokes. Each interaction is different and makes for an extra magical memory. This is also a Fastpass+ experience but wait times will fluctuate depending on the season and time of day.
Being the most popular Disney character, Mickey has many, many fans looking to take his picture and have him sign their autograph books. Luckily, the mouse can sure travel and is able to be at all these venues to greet guests of all ages. Remember, character meet and greets aren’t restricted to kids. Adults are always welcome to join in on the fun.
