Universal Access Restricted at Original Florida Park, Updates Given

Universal’s portfolio of parks is growing both at home and abroad. While new destinations are planned across the U.S. and overseas, the company is also refining the guest experience at its original Florida resort.

One visible change is happening in Universal Studios Florida, where a frequently used bridge connecting The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley to the Springfield area is under refurbishment. The structure has been stripped down to its frame, with scaffolding around the center portion.

Per reports, crews have replaced flooring, though railing installation is still pending on the Wizarding World side. The Springfield side now has both flooring and railings completed. Some columns once found in the middle section have not yet returned, and the lagoon’s water level has been lowered to aid the work. Guests are currently being redirected past Men in Black: Alien Attack to reach The Simpsons-themed land.

This project comes just after the debut of Universal Epic Universe on May 22, the resort’s third theme park alongside Universal Studios Florida and Universal’s Islands of Adventure. Visitors can now explore SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, How to Train Your Dragon: Isle of Berk, and Celestial Park. Rumors hint at possible future additions, including an area based on The Legend of Zelda.

Despite the arrival of Epic Universe, the original two parks remain popular for attractions like The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Jurassic World, and The Simpsons. For thrill rides, VelociCoaster and Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure continue to see high demand.

Beyond Florida, Universal’s domestic projects include Universal Horror Unleashed in Las Vegas and Chicago, as well as the upcoming Universal Kids Resort in Frisco, Texas.

International expansion is also on the horizon. In the United Kingdom, NBCUniversal is in the early planning stages for a park in Bedfordshire known for now as Universal Great Britain. The destination, expected to open within the next decade, aims to showcase beloved franchises including The Lord of the Rings, James Bond, Back to the Future, and Paddington.

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his favorite TV show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer except when it's One Tree Hill. He loves sandy beach walks, forest hikes, and foodie days out in the Big City. Thomas lives in England, UK, with his fiancée, baby, and their dog, a Border Collie called Luna.
