Epic Universe’s first regular fireworks show has hit trouble less than 10 weeks after its debut.
Universal Celestial Goodnight launched on July 7, 2026, adding a nightly finale to Universal Orlando Resort’s newest theme park. The production runs in Celestial Park at park close, combining its existing fountains and lighting system with music and pyrotechnics.
Its arrival marked a notable expansion of Epic Universe’s nighttime entertainment. When the park opened in May 2025, Celestial Park had already transformed after dark through its illuminated fountains, landscaping, attractions, and seven million embedded LED lights.
What it did not have was a traditional fireworks spectacular.
Universal Celestial Goodnight changed that. The show features music inspired by Super Nintendo World, How to Train Your Dragon — Isle of Berk, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Ministry of Magic, and Dark Universe, before ending with fireworks around Celestial Park and behind Universal Helios Grand Hotel.
Two months later, that ending has disappeared.
Universal Confirms Fireworks Are Temporarily Unavailable
Questions about the show began mounting before Universal publicly addressed the change.
Inside the Magic saw Universal Celestial Goodnight with its full fireworks package on August 12. By early September, however, guests were reporting that some of its largest pyrotechnics were no longer appearing.
Theme park photographer Bioreconstruct said on September 2 that the full fireworks had already been missing “for weeks.”

Another guest described a reduced performance that same night.
“The show did not have the big fireworks launching behind the Helios Hotel. The fireworks were only on the sides.”
Universal finally confirmed the issue on September 14 after another guest contacted the resort on X, formerly Twitter, about the missing effects.
“The fireworks portion of Universal Celestial Goodnight is temporarily unavailable as we work to resolve a technical issue,” the park said. “We apologize for any inconvenience.”
No timeline was provided for their return.
The confirmation also came through a direct response rather than a broader announcement from Universal Orlando Resort.
That became another point of frustration for the guest, who argued that visitors should have been warned before arriving at Epic Universe.
“This should ABSOLUTELY be noted on your APP and website,” they wrote. “I would have re-scheduled my visit to when the full show was available.”
Celestial Goodnight Continues Without Its Full Finale
Universal Celestial Goodnight has not been permanently canceled.
The show continues to use Celestial Park’s lighting, fountains, and soundtrack while Universal works on the unspecified technical issue affecting its fireworks.
Universal says the production uses nearly 600 synchronized lighting fixtures, more than 350 fountains, and seven million LED lights throughout Celestial Park.
Fireworks were nevertheless a major part of the show from the beginning. When Universal announced Celestial Goodnight in June, it specifically promoted a fireworks display as the production’s finale.
The current problem is also not the first time the pyrotechnics have been removed.
Universal temporarily operated Celestial Goodnight without fireworks during extreme heat in Central Florida shortly after its July launch.
This time, Universal has specifically blamed a technical issue.
Central Florida has experienced multiple storms since Inside the Magic saw the full show on August 12, leading to speculation that conditions may have affected its launch area. Universal has not said that weather caused the current problem.
The disruption comes as Universal continues to put more emphasis on Epic Universe after dark.
Universal Nights, a new, separately ticketed after-hours event, will take place at Epic Universe on October 3 and October 17. Universal has advertised Celestial Goodnight as one of the experiences guests can see before those events begin.
Whether its full fireworks package will be restored by then remains unclear.
