Universal Drops a Bombshell, Epic Universe Sneak Peeks Could Be Coming

Universal Orlando Resort is no stranger to offering early access to new attractions, and with Epic Universe set to open in May 2025, many wonder if a preview period will happen. Universal has a track record of allowing select guests, such as team members, passholders, and media, to experience attractions before their grand opening. Given this history, early access to Epic Universe seems highly likely.

Universal has conducted soft openings for major attractions in the past. VelociCoaster at Islands of Adventure, for example, had a soft opening for team members and annual passholders before officially opening. Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure also had early previews, although technical issues still persisted after launch. These soft openings allow Universal to fine-tune operations, adjust logistics, and ensure rides are working properly before full-scale crowds arrive.

With Epic Universe featuring multiple new lands—SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, Dark Universe, and The Wizarding World’s Ministry of Magic—it’s possible that Universal may roll out previews in stages. Here are some ways they might do it:

  • Technical Rehearsals: These allow rides to open sporadically, sometimes unannounced, as part of the final testing phase.
  • Team Member Previews: Universal employees are often the first to test new experiences before the public.
  • Annual Passholder Previews: Passholders may get early access through a reservation system.
  • Media and VIP Events: Journalists and influencers could receive exclusive first looks.
  • Ticketed Previews: Universal may sell limited-access tickets for early entry.

A preview phase would also help Universal test logistics, including the park’s new transportation system, which connects Epic Universe to other areas of Universal Orlando. Ensuring smooth guest flow before the full opening will be key.

While Universal has yet to confirm any preview plans, it would be surprising if they didn’t offer early access in some form. Whether through soft openings or exclusive events, some lucky guests will likely get a sneak peek before May 2025. As excitement builds, all eyes are on Universal to see how they handle the launch of their most ambitious park yet.
