Universal Orlando Roller Coaster Catches Fire: Emergency Crews Rush Onto Scene

Few sights at Universal Studios Florida have been as instantly recognizable as Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit. Its towering red track, towering lift hill, and pulse-pounding music playlists made it one of the park’s most thrilling—and loudest—rides. Guests often recalled their first vertical climb with awe, the soundtrack blasting in sync with the coaster’s twists and turns.

Since its permanent closure in August, the coaster’s steel frame has remained a quiet reminder of the thrills it once offered. Fans have followed the gradual demolition closely, sharing photos and updates online. Each missing piece of track felt like a chapter of the park’s history slowly being erased.

But on Friday morning, what remained of Rip Ride Rockit became the scene of a dramatic and unexpected event that no fan could have anticipated.

By 11:50 a.m., screenshots from the live feed showed the red track glowing from the heat, while yellow supports had blackened from the flames. Firefighters continued spraying water, and by 11:56 a.m., the fire was mostly extinguished. Occasional flare-ups persisted until around 12:04 p.m., but the blaze appeared largely contained to the top of the lift hill.

While the cause of the fire is still unknown, demolition crews had been actively working in the area, suggesting that the incident may have been linked to ongoing removal efforts.

What This Means for the Future

Universal has not yet commented on the fire or the timeline for finishing demolition. However, speculation continues about what could rise from the coaster’s former footprint. Industry insiders and fans alike suggest that Universal may be preparing the area for a major new attraction, possibly linked to current film franchises or immersive experiences that reflect the resort’s continued expansion plans.

As Universal Orlando evolves, incidents like this underscore how quickly the landscape of the park can change, leaving fans to reminisce about beloved rides while eagerly anticipating what comes next. Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit may be gone, but the memories—and now, the dramatic fire—will linger for years to come.

Since first stepping inside the Magic Kingdom at nine years old, I knew I was destined to be a theme Park enthusiast. Although I consider myself a theme Park junkie, I still have much to learn and discover about Disney. Universal Orlando Resort has my heart; being an Annual Passholder means visiting my favorite places on Earth when possible! When I’m not writing about Disney, Universal, or entertainment news, you’ll find me cruising on my motorcycle, hiking throughout my local metro parks, or spending quality time with my girlfriend, family, or friends.
