Universal Orlando Resort is entering another major transition period, and this time the changes are hitting several dining locations that many guests have relied on for years. While most attention remains focused on Epic Universe and the resort’s expanding lineup of attractions, Universal has also confirmed that multiple popular food locations are disappearing.
Some have already closed. Others are now operating on borrowed time.
For longtime visitors, the closures carry more weight than people might expect. These locations became part of the routine for families spending long days inside the parks. They offered quiet places to cool off, quick meals at a reasonable cost, and familiar stops that guests visited trip after trip.
Now, several of those longtime favorites are heading out the door.
Thunder Falls Terrace Will Close in 2026
One of the biggest upcoming closures involves Thunder Falls Terrace at Islands of Adventure.
Universal confirmed the restaurant will shut down during the summer of 2026, ending the run of one of the park’s most reliable quick-service locations.
Thunder Falls Terrace sat directly beside Jurassic Park River Adventure, giving guests a unique dining experience that combined covered seating with views of ride vehicles splashing into the water below. During crowded afternoons, many families used the restaurant as a break spot away from the park's busiest walkways.
The location also became known for offering larger portions than many nearby quick-service restaurants.
For longtime Jurassic Park fans, the closure feels even bigger because the land itself has changed dramatically over the years. As Jurassic World elements continue to arrive, older elements of the original Jurassic Park atmosphere have slowly disappeared. Thunder Falls Terrace remained one of the few spots that still carried that classic feel many guests remembered from earlier visits.

Mythos Restaurant Closing Signals a Bigger Shift
If Thunder Falls Terrace represented an important quick-service option, Mythos Restaurant represented something even larger for Universal Orlando Resort.
Universal has confirmed Mythos will close in 2027.
For years, the restaurant helped prove Universal could compete with Disney when it came to food quality inside the parks. Guests praised Mythos for its atmosphere, unique menu, and full-service dining experience inside Islands of Adventure.
Located inside The Lost Continent, Mythos also became one of the most recognizable landmarks anywhere in the park.
Its closure continues the gradual disappearance of The Lost Continent itself. Poseidon’s Fury already closed permanently in 2023, while construction and changing guest traffic patterns continue to reshape the area.
Even as newer sections of Universal Orlando Resort continue expanding, Mythos remained one of the last major connections to the original Islands of Adventure lineup.
That is why many longtime fans see the closure as more than just the loss of a restaurant.

Burger King’s Closure Removed a Budget Option
Universal also lost one of its simplest dining options earlier this year when Burger King officially closed at Universal CityWalk in April 2026.
Compared to Mythos or Thunder Falls Terrace, the closure may seem less emotional. Still, many guests relied on the location because it offered fast, inexpensive meals compared to those at many surrounding restaurants.
Families leaving the parks late at night often stopped there to avoid paying for another expensive sit-down dinner. Hotel guests also appreciated having a quick option before heading back to their rooms.
The closure reflects a broader shift underway at Universal Orlando Resort. Many affordable,d straightforward food locations continue to disappear,g while more heavily themed and premium experiences take their place.

Guests Still Have Strong Dining Choices
Even with these closures, Universal Orlando Resort still offers plenty of popular restaurants.
CityWalk continues drawing crowds to Toothsome Chocolate Emporium, NBC Sports Grill & Brew, Voodoo Doughnut, and Antojitos.
Inside Islands of Adventure, guests still fill restaurants like Three Broomsticks, Green Eggs and Ham Cafe, and Confisco Grille every day.
Universal Studios Florida remains home to favorites like Mel’s Drive-In, Leaky Cauldron, and Lombard’s Seafood Grille.
Epic Universe has also expanded the dining lineup significantly with themed restaurants located throughout Celestial Park, Dark Universe, SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, and the Ministry of Magic area.

Universal Orlando Resort Looks Very Different Than It Once Did
Universal Orlando has never stopped evolving, but the pace of change feels much faster right now.
Thunder Falls Terrace, Mythos, and Burger King all served completely different purposes across the resort. Together, though, their closures reveal where Universal Orlando appears to be heading next.
The company continues leaning heavily into newer intellectual properties, immersive environments, and more premium vacation experiences.
For newer guests, those changes may simply feel like progress.
For longtime Universal Orlando Resort fans, however, another piece of the resort’s older identity is beginning to disappear.
