Universal Orlando just confirmed another major change for Islands of Adventure, and this one feels much bigger than a normal restaurant refurbishment.
Thunder Falls Terrace inside Jurassic Park will permanently close later this summer before returning in 2027 as a completely reimagined dining experience. Universal says the replacement will become the new signature full-service restaurant for Islands of Adventure, signaling a dramatic upgrade for the longtime quick-service location.
On the surface, that already sounds significant. But once you connect it to the other major announcement Universal made today, the direction becomes even clearer.

Mythos is going away too.
Universal Is Losing One of Its Most Famous Restaurants
Universal confirmed that all venues and experiences within Lost Continent will close in 2027, including Mythos Restaurant.
That instantly changes the conversation around Thunder Falls Terrace.
For years, Mythos has been viewed as the crown jewel dining location of Islands of Adventure. The restaurant became famous for its massive carved rock interior, upscale menu, and reputation as one of the best theme park restaurants in the world. Even guests who didn’t spend much time in Lost Continent usually made an effort to eat there at least once.
Now Universal suddenly needs a new flagship restaurant experience inside the park.
That’s why many fans believe the Jurassic Park overhaul is not happening by coincidence.
Thunder Falls Terrace Could Become the New Face of Islands of Adventure Dining
Universal has not officially tied the two projects together, but the possibility feels obvious.
Instead of simply refreshing Thunder Falls Terrace, Universal is completely changing the concept. The new venue will shift from quick service into a full-service experience and open in 2027 — the same year Mythos disappears.
There’s already speculation that some Mythos team members could eventually move into the Jurassic Park restaurant once Lost Continent closes for good. Others believe portions of Mythos’ menu or overall dining style may influence the replacement concept.
At the moment, Universal has not announced the restaurant’s official theme, menu, or even its final name. Thunder Falls Terrace itself may disappear entirely once the overhaul finishes.
Still, it’s clear Universal wants this location to become something far more ambitious than what guests know today.
Jurassic Park Has Become One of Universal’s Biggest Priorities
The decision also shows just how important Jurassic Park has become to Islands of Adventure.
Years ago, the land mainly revolved around Jurassic Park River Adventure and scenic pathways. That changed dramatically once VelociCoaster opened and transformed the area into one of the busiest sections of the park.
Universal has continued leaning into the franchise ever since.
New merchandise locations, expanded entertainment, upgraded food offerings, and increased guest traffic have all pushed Jurassic Park closer to becoming one of the resort’s biggest anchors. Adding a signature restaurant only strengthens that position.
And from a design standpoint, the location already has huge advantages.
Thunder Falls Terrace sits in one of the most visually impressive sections of Islands of Adventure. Diners can already watch River Adventure boats plunge down the massive waterfall while surrounded by tropical landscaping and Jurassic Park atmosphere. Turning that into a premium dining experience feels like a natural next step.
Fans Are Watching Another Original Islands of Adventure Experience Disappear
Even with the excitement surrounding the new restaurant, there’s also a bittersweet side to these changes.
Original Islands of Adventure continues shrinking.
Lost Continent represented one of the last remaining pieces of Universal’s original non-IP-heavy era. Mythos especially became symbolic of the park’s opening-day identity and immersive storytelling approach.
Now, another piece of that history is disappearing while Universal shifts further toward recognizable blockbuster franchises.
Jurassic Park may benefit enormously from the investment, but longtime fans are still watching another classic Islands of Adventure experience fade away in the process.

The 2027 Version of Islands of Adventure Could Look Very Different
Between the Lost Continent closures and the Jurassic Park overhaul, Universal is setting up a dramatically different future for Islands of Adventure.
By 2027, guests may walk into a park where Jurassic Park houses the premier dining experience, Lost Continent is largely gone, and entirely new concepts begin taking over areas that once defined the park’s original identity.
For now, Thunder Falls Terrace remains open. But once the closure begins later this summer, another chapter of classic Islands of Adventure history officially comes to an end.
