Due to an ongoing cold front impacting Central Florida, Universal Orlando Resort has announced an extended temporary closure of Volcano Bay on Thursday, February 20, and Friday, February 21, 2025.
Universal Confirms Extended Closure of Volcano Bay
The resort confirmed the decision via its social media channels, citing inclement weather conditions as the reason. This marks the first time in February 2025 that the water park has been forced to close due to cold weather, although similar weather-related closures occurred in January.

According to Weather.com, Orlando will experience a high of 64°F and a low of 40°F on Thursday, with Friday’s temperatures expected to range between 62°F and 47°F. Historically, Universal closes Volcano Bay whenever the forecast predicts temperatures in the mid-60s or lower, as cooler weather significantly diminishes the guest experience at the water park.
Universal has not yet made any statements regarding a possible reopening on Saturday or Sunday, but current forecasts suggest a gradual warm-up heading into the weekend.
What Happens to Tickets for These Dates?
With Volcano Bay closed on February 20 and 21, all date-specific tickets for these days are now invalid. However, guests will have several options to reschedule their visit for a later date in 2025.
Here’s what you can do if you purchased a ticket for one of the affected dates:
- Reschedule for a future visit – Guests can contact Universal Orlando Guest Services or visit the ticket counter to choose a new date.
- Use an annual or multi-day ticket – If your ticket includes multiple days or is part of an annual pass, it will remain valid for future visits.
- Check refund options – If rescheduling is not an option, guests should contact Universal’s support team for refund inquiries.
For additional assistance, call 407-817-8317 or follow Universal’s official social media channels for real-time updates.
What Can Guests Do Instead?
