Universal Is Increasing Annual Pass Prices (Yes, Again)

Universal’s theme parks have been in constant motion in recent years — adding new attractions, expanding existing lands, and drawing record-breaking crowds. From the rolling hills of Southern California to the bustling streets of Osaka, the brand’s global footprint continues to grow. Yet for visitors, those expansions often come with a familiar trade-off.

The company’s rapid development has been matched by a steady stream of price adjustments. Whether in the form of higher food costs, more expensive passes, or increased day ticket rates, guests are becoming accustomed to paying more for the Universal experience.

In California, construction is underway on Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, the park’s first high-speed outdoor coaster. Positioned across a hillside and slicing past the park’s famous escalators, it is set to deliver a far more intense ride than its much-criticized counterpart, Fast & Furious: Supercharged.

At Universal Orlando Resort, speculation is swirling over a new attraction expected to replace Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit — rumored to take cues from Ghostbusters. The Florida resort also recently opened its long-anticipated Epic Universe theme park, with fans already whispering about a potential expansion that could include a Wicked-themed land.

Price Hikes Across Multiple Theme Parks

While guests have welcomed the new attractions, Universal has also rolled out a string of price hikes. In March, Universal Orlando Resort quietly increased food prices at popular dining spots like Minion Cafe and The Three Broomsticks in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Parkgoers have also speculated that annual pass prices could climb in 2026, especially if access to Epic Universe is added as a perk.

Universal Studios Japan has followed a similar pattern. In November 2024, the park raised the price of its Universal Prime Annual Pass Standard from ¥20,000 to ¥21,000. Now, the Osaka-based park is preparing for yet another increase, set to take effect on November 4, 2025.

The Universal Prime Annual Pass Standard will rise to ¥22,000 (about $150), while the higher-tier Universal Prime Annual Pass Grand Royal will climb from ¥48,800 ($332) to ¥50,800 ($346) per adult.

Value and Comparisons

The increase may be modest in percentage terms, and the pass remains cheaper than the equivalent at Universal Studios Hollywood, where prices range from $299 to $599. However, Universal Studios Japan boasts a larger selection of rides — and has earned a reputation for dense, sometimes overwhelming crowds.

Despite the change, many fans argue the park still offers better value per visit than Tokyo Disney Resort, which has yet to reinstate its annual pass program following its suspension during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Universal Studios Japan features a wide range of themed lands, from SUPER NINTENDO WORLD — now expanded with Donkey Kong Country — to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, Minion Park, and more. For some, these offerings more than justify the higher cost. For others, the increase is yet another sign that visiting major theme parks is becoming an ever-more expensive pursuit.
