Universal Takes Popular Epic Universe Attraction Offline Less Than a Year In

Epic Universe opened with a lot riding on it. Universal Orlando Resort positioned it as a major step forward, and from the start, it felt like something different. The crowds came quickly, and the park delivered big moments right out of the gate.

Still, the first year hasn’t been completely smooth.

There have been a few growing pains along the way. Ride downtime, capacity pressure, and unexpected closures have all played a role as the park settles into daily operations. That’s normal for a brand-new park, but it’s hard to ignore when you’re watching it unfold.

Now, another shift is happening. One of the park’s biggest rides is going offline, and it’s happening before Epic Universe reaches its one-year mark.

Why Epic Universe Feels So Different

Epic Universe stands apart because of its structure. Instead of a single continuous space, the park is divided into lands that each feel like their own environments.

Dark Universe offers a darker, more atmospheric experience built around classic monsters. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter area shifts into a magical setting centered on the Ministry of Magic. How to Train Your Dragon brings a brighter, more playful energy with interactive elements and family-friendly design.

SUPER NINTENDO WORLD might be the most energetic of them all. It’s colorful, fast-paced, and full of movement. Guests interact with the environment, collect coins, and step directly into the world of Mario.

That mix of experiences makes the park feel unique. It also means that when one attraction goes down, it has a noticeable impact.

Inside SUPER NINTENDO WORLD’s Ride Lineup

SUPER NINTENDO WORLD has become one of the most popular areas in Epic Universe. Its attractions consistently draw long waits and strong demand.

The Mario Kart attraction inside Bowser’s castle leads the way. It blends physical sets with augmented reality, dropping guests into a racing experience that feels completely different from other rides.

Yoshi’s Adventure offers a more relaxed experience. It’s slower, more family-friendly, and gives guests a chance to take in the land at a different pace.

Then there’s the Donkey Kong ride, which quickly became one of the standout attractions in the park. Its unique track design and the illusion of jumping across broken rails make it feel unlike anything else nearby.

It’s one of the rides guests don’t want to miss.

Universal Confirms Donkey Kong Closure

Universal has confirmed that the Donkey Kong attraction will close for a short refurbishment beginning May 3, 2026.

The current plan shows the ride reopening on May 4, 2026, making this a very brief closure.

Even so, taking a high-demand ride offline can change how guests move through the land. Wait times for other attractions may increase, and guests may need to rethink their plans.

It’s a small change, but in a busy area like SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, even a short closure can have an impact.

Stardust Racers Returned Ahead of Schedule

Epic Universe has already gone through a similar situation with another major attraction.

Stardust Racers closed on February 19, 2026, for its first annual inspection. At the time, the expectation was that it would remain closed into early April.

Instead, Universal completed the work faster than expected. The coaster reopened on March 25, 2026, ahead of its projected April 6 return.

That early reopening showed that while downtime happens, Universal is working to keep disruptions as short as possible.

The Reality of a First-Year Theme Park

Epic Universe is still new, and that comes with adjustments.

Rides will go down for maintenance. Operations will evolve. The park will continue to improve as it gains more experience.

For guests, the key is to stay flexible. Plans may need to shift, especially when visiting a park that’s still in its early stages.

Even with a few bumps, Epic Universe is still delivering something fresh. This Donkey Kong closure is just another step in the process as the park continues to find its rhythm.
