Cedar Point posted an official closure notice to its Instagram story, informing guests of an immediate shutdown at Cedar Point Shores water park with little lead time to adjust plans. The notice read:

“PARK NOTICE

Due to forecasted weather, Cedar Point Shores will be closed May 23-24, 2026.

Stay in the loop before you go! Check the park website & mobile app for all current operational updates.”

The Six Flags-owned Sandusky, Ohio, vacation destination confirmed on its website that while Cedar Point Shores remains closed as of Sunday, May 24, the main theme park is open and running its standard Sunday hours from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Individual attractions may see temporary suspensions during the heaviest periods of rain and thunderstorm activity throughout the day.

Cedar Point Shores is currently operating on a weekend-only schedule and isn't set to reopen until Saturday, May 30 — meaning there's no path back to the water park before next weekend, regardless of how the weather shakes out in the coming days.

On Saturday, May 23, the National Weather Service Cleveland posted this forecast on X (formerly known as Twitter):

After the widespread rain this morning, there will be a brief lull for most across the region. This afternoon, scattered showers/thunderstorms are likely with a few strong to severe storms possible, primarily in north and central OH. #OHwx #PAwx

Sunday's forecast offered more of the same:

Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected this afternoon into the evening with drier weather to start the week on Monday. Temperatures today will be seasonable, with highs in the mid to upper 70s. #OHwx #PAwx

Warmer, drier conditions are expected to move in beginning Monday, May 25…but that's cold comfort for guests who made the trip to Sandusky specifically with Cedar Point Shores in mind this weekend.

The Cedar Point website and mobile app remain the most reliable sources for real-time operational updates before and during any park visit.
