runDisney events sell out quickly, and this month’s upcoming Disney Princess Marathon Weekend is no exception. If you were hoping to participate in the event, however, you may be in luck! It seems some last-minute registration spots are still available for the virtual Disney Princess Half Marathon. Here’s what you need to know.
Virtual runDisney events effectively operate similarly to the in-person alternative, without the character meet and greets, and entertainment, of course. Runners in virtual races can complete their events on their own time. To participate, you simply register for the event you are interested in (in this case, the Princess Half Marathon) and complete the distance from home. The cost of the Virtual Princess Half Marathon is $108 per person, with proceeds supporting Starlight™ Children’s Foundation.
Some runners clock their time running the specific virtual event on a treadmill or with a Fitbit, while others map out the distance and go for a run in their own neighborhood. Unlike in-person races, virtual events do not need to be completed at one time. If you are just getting into running or simply want to take it slow, you could always register for the Virtual Princess Half Marathon and break down the 13.1-mile course into whatever amounts are manageable for you.
Virtual runners do still receive finisher medals, along with participation shirts, a digital bib and finisher certificate, race toolkit (with printable mile markers!), and a virtual goody bag and playlist for some added motivation. To make your virtual experience even more magical, (and if the timing works out) consider completing your run along trails at Walt Disney World Resort hotels during your next trip.
Finisher medals for virtual runs are essentially given out on the honor system, but we don’t think this will be a problem (what fun is it to receive a medal when you didn’t complete the race?) And this year’s half marathon medal features gorgeous artwork of Mulan, one of the toughest Disney princesses whose movie could totally help with motivation for your next half marathon!
If you are interested in the Virtual Princess Half Marathon or later runDisney events, we recommend registering early as space does tend to fill up. Find complete information at rundisney.com.
