You Need to Do a Few Things BEFORE Your Trip to Disneyland

You can’t wait! You’re finally going to take a trip to Disneyland Resort in California! Could there be anything more exciting for you and your family? No—not too many things. But before you take off for your trip to the happiest place on earth, there are a few things you need to do. Here’s our list.

1. Book Your Hotel

You can stay on property at Disneyland or off property. Even if you’re off property, you’re not far away from the magic at all! But you need to book in advance. Visit disneyland.disney.go.com to get started!

2. Book Your Travel

If you don’t live near the Anaheim, California area, you’ll need to decide on the mode of transportation you’ll be using to get to Disneyland. If you’ll be flying, it’s a good idea to book your flight as soon as you book your hotel. This will give you time to compare the fares of different carriers.

3. Visit www.ShopDisney.com

Maybe your husband has made it clear that he doesn’t do matching shirts. That’s ok—he can still be decked out in Disney apparel on the very first day of your trip. And you and the kids can too. While you’ll be able to buy t-shirts, ears, hats, etc., once you’re at the Disneyland Resort, there’s something fun about already having your gear—ready for your first day in the park! Pick up character-themed items and Disneyland shirts, hats and accessories (often on sale!) at ShopDisney.com. You can also download the Shop Disney Parks app and buy Disneyland merchandise online. Just be sure to place your orders far enough in advance so that you can receive your goodies before you leave for your trip.

4. Choose A Backpack

This is a great idea no matter which of the Disney Parks you’ll be visiting. At least one member of your family should carry a backpack. It will be your best friend in the park. That’s because it’s really inconvenient to carry bags and purses in the park, but you’ve got to have a few things at your disposal while you’re exploring Disneyland. You can buy a backpack at Disneyland, but you’ll usually pay more for it, and you’ll have to bring things into the park in another bag before you buy your backpack once you’re there. Have your backpack already packed before you leave home and slip it into your suitcase so it’s ready to go on your first day. Don’t waste valuable park time back at your hotel looking for things and packing that backpack.

I am a writer and a Mom to four children and two baby shih-tzus. My first experience with the Magic was in 1988, when my parents surprised my brother and me with a visit to Walt Disney World after a short trip to see friends in Georgia. I still hum the tune played during the Main Street Electrical Parade and remember the feeling of excitement from my very first visit. I introduced my husband to the Magic several years ago, and we take our children to the parks every time we can. No matter how many times I visit Walt Disney World, it seems it’s not enough! The ever-changing experience only gets better with each trip, and I’m thrilled to share the Magic with others, as well as some of the tips and tricks to getting the most out of the Magic with each visit!
