Let’s be honest for a second; Disney fans can be a little…obsessive. We like what we like, and no one can tell us differently. We could spend hours arguing over the best ride at EPCOT (it’s Soarin’ Around the World, by the way) or which character meet and greet is the best at Magic Kingdom. It’s part of the beauty and insanity of being a Disney fan.
But when it comes to food, the arguments can get pretty personal. Read any story (perhaps like this one) about the best restaurant at Hollywood Studios, and scroll down to the comments. It can get a little upsetting. Possibly even damaging to one’s psyche. But that’s the way it is for Disney fans.
So when Business Insider released a list of the most disappointing restaurants in Walt Disney World, I wanted a piece of that. And then I read. It hurt that some of my favorite restaurants were on this list. Flame Tree BBQ and Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn & Cafe disappointing? Never.
I humbly present to you the actual list of disappointing restaurants across the four Parks at Disney World Resort:
Magic Kingdom
This one will get angry comments, but it’s Be Our Guest. There, I said it. The atmosphere is fantastic; there is no arguing that. And sure, it’s the only place you can meet The Beast, but then there’s the food. That is why you’re there, right?
At best, the food is average and overpriced. You’re paying for the indoor snow, not the food. And the grey stuff, it’s not great. Why would you eat here when you can get a great meal and atmosphere at the Jungle Navigation Company LTD Skipper Canteen? It just makes sense.
EPCOT
San Angel Inn Restaurant in the Mexico Pavilion in World Showcase. Again, you’re paying for the atmosphere. The food is okay, and the service is not excellent.
A special second place goes to Sunshine Seasons in The Land. This was one of my favorite spots, but it has fallen off in the last year or two. I wish Disney would bring it back to its glory. I love this place, and it saddens me that it’s gotten this bad.
Hollywood Studios
Strangely enough, I agree with Business Insider on this one. Sci-Fi Diner is disappointing. I love the concept, love the atmosphere, hating the food and the cars. It’s hard to talk to people when you’re sitting behind them. And if you stay there long enough, and you will stay there long enough, the clips keep repeating. Just show me a movie already.
Animal Kingdom
This one is easy too. Pizzafari. Quick aside, I’m a pizza snob. I live between New York City and New Haven, the Kingdoms of Pizza, so why would I travel to Disney World for pizza?
Flame Tree BBQ is right there, and it’s fantastic. And there’s a much better view.
So those are the dining options to avoid. Whether it’s breakfast, lunch, dinner, quick service, or table service, you can’t go wrong at the Walt Disney World Resort if you know what to avoid. Enjoy.
