10 New Things Coming to Disney World for the 50th Anniversary

50th Anniversary

Preparations have already begun for Walt Disney World’s 50thanniversary in 2021.  We’ve been excitedly listening to all of the news coming out about what is coming to the parks and the resorts.  Between new attractions, experiences, and restaurants, there is a huge slate of new additions coming to Disney World — here is our list of the top ten!

1. Transportation Improvements

With new experiences coming, Disney is innovating the way that guests get around property.  For too long guests have relied on the Disney bus system and the Monorail to get between the parks and their resorts.  In addition to this reliable system, Disney is adding the Skyliner system which will shuttle guests between Epcot and Hollywood Studios, as well as certain resorts. And to make the bus travel easier, Disney is building dedicated bus lanes that will make traveling around property all the more easier!

2. New Epcot Restaurants

Epcot is the destination for great dining on property — guests can sample the flavors of the world by dining at the large number of restaurants that dot the waters of the World Showcase Lagoon.  In addition to the restaurants currently available to guests, Epcot will be home to a new restaurant in Japan.  With the popularity of Teppan Edo and Tokyo Dining, it stands to reason that this restaurant will be an instant hit!  Guests can also find a new restaurant in Future World near Mission: SPACE.  This restaurant will feature interactive screens and will be entirely space-themed!

3. Aesthetic Improvements

Throughout the year Disney makes improvements to the landscaping and color schemes around the parks.  Disney is currently working on a project painting the various walls in Tomorrowland, but with the parks expected to see record crowds for the 50thanniversary, guests will continue to see these improvements across property in the parks and the resorts!

4. New Resorts

With all of the guests coming to property, Disney is going to need to find the room to put them.  In addition to a DVC that is being constructed at Fort Wilderness, guests will also be able to find and explore new rooms at the Gran Destino Tower at Coronado Springs Resort, as well as explore the new DVC resort, the Riveria, located at the Caribbean Beach Resort!

5. Guardians of the Galaxy Coaster

News keeps coming in about this attraction at Epcot where Ellen’s Energy Adventure once stood.  Recently, it was announced that this will be a backward-launch coaster and will also have unique ride vehicles that will immerse guests in the attraction!  You’ll definitely want a FastPass+ to reserve your place in line when this attraction finally opens up!

6. Ratatouille Attraction

Also at Epcot, France will be welcoming an attraction based on the Pixar classic, “Ratatouille.”  This attraction will also feature a unique ride system and will be similar to the attraction that exists at Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris.  Guests visiting the France Pavilion should also check up the updated Impressions de France show, as well as a new musical offering featuring songs from “Beauty and the Beast.”

7. Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway

Opening next year this attraction will be housed at the former home of the Great Movie Ride.  Featuring new animation, this attraction is being billed as a unique multi-sensory experience.  With the opening of Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge imminent, this new attraction, as well as Toy Story Land, will help disperse guests throughout the park!

8. Nighttime Entertainment at Epcot

IllumiNations is coming to an end at the end of summer, so guests wanting one last show better make their plans now, but we are very excited to hear about the new shows that are coming to Epcot.  With the new dining additions, guests will have plenty of choices for dinner before the magic begins!  It is rumored these new shows will feature drones the enhance the viewing experience!
