Going to Walt Disney World is always full of excitement and preparation. Almost always, the majority of the focus is on the parks, rides, FastPass reservations, dining reservations, and show times. Yet, one of the most important parts of planning for Disney is packing well. Here are the top 10 Packing Tips for you WDW vacation!
1. Check The Weather
Now, when I say check the forecast before you go, I mean begin checking a week in advance. Continue to check and see if the weather is updated. Florida weather is truly unpredictable and it could be freezing one day and blistering hot the next.
2. Pack For The Elements
Although having a general idea of what the weather will be like is helpful, it is better to be safe than sorry when it comes to packing for a vacation to WDW. Make sure to have a combination of clothes so that you don’t end up lacking in the dress department.
3. Leave The Heels At Home
Ladies, I know how great it looks to walk around in high heels. Disney is certainly not the place to wear high heels, particularly in the theme parks. Theme parks are big spaces and walking is the only way to get around. Comfortable shoes are key. Bringing heels should be useful for a night on the town in Disney Springs at most!
4. Raincoats/Ponchos, Not Umbrellas!
I’ve come to learn through years of experience that raincoats are always better than umbrellas while in the parks. Although umbrellas are protective, raincoats are hands free and easy to slip on and off. They also will take up less room and keep your clothes drier than an umbrella would.
5. Comfortable Fabrics
When spending a day at the park, especially under the smoldering Florida heat, it is best to wear clothes with light fabrics that will keep you cool. Avoid thicker materials, including denim shorts. Although denim shorts look fashionable, they will eventually feel uncomfortable compared to cotton shorts.
6. Travel-Sized Sunscreen
Have we mentioned that Walt Disney World is located in Florida? It is always noticeable about a few hours into a day at the theme parks of who forgot their sunscreen. Don’t be the guest with the red splotches painful red burns. Opt for bringing a travel sized sunscreen to the park so that it won’t take up too much room in your purse/etc.
7. CrossBody Bag/Backpack
As someone who used to bring a full sized shoulder bag to the park, I have learned better. Bringing big, bulky bags to the park may seem appealing, but it will definitely be inconvenient and cause major shoulder pain. A cross body bag or a backpack is your best bet.

8. Reusable Water Bottle
Water bottles can get costly at the theme parks. Instead of spending all your cash on drinks, bring a usable water and fill up at Quick Service restaurants. It will save you a lot of money and time!
9. Traveling With Kids…
If traveling with kids, pack their outfits into plastic bags for every day at the parks. It will keep the clothes orderly and save parents the hassle of having to help figure out outfits for every day. Once the day is done, the clothes can go back into their individual plastic bag!
10. Bathing Suits
This may seem obvious, but there have been plenty of times when I didn’t think I would be going to the pool or a water park, and it ended up happening. Be sure to bring a suit or two, whether it be for a dip in the hotel pool or for a spontaneous day at one of Disney’s two more fabulous water parks!
