10 Things to Pack for a Summer Trip to Walt Disney World

Disney Suitcase

When preparing and planning for a summer trip to WDW, it can be overwhelming to figure out what exactly you need to pack. While there are many specific things that your family will need, here are 10 things that everyone should have packed for their trip:

10.) Ponchos/Umbrellas

If you live in or have ever been to Florida, then you know the weather is unpredictable, especially during the summer. Because of this, you and your family will want to have ponchos or umbrellas handy in case you get caught in a summer shower. It’s much easier to get a 99 cent poncho from Walmart before you leave your hometown rather than buy a $10 one in the parks.

9.) Disney themed shirts

During the summer, there are a wide array of Disney clothing options available. From tank tops to dresses, there are plenty of comfortable clothes that will help you and your family stay cool. The best part? You and your family will be dressed and immersed in the Disney spirit.

8.) Headache Medicine

In the Florida heat, surrounded by crowds of people, it can be very easy to develop a headache. It is for this reason that you MUST pack headache medicine before you go. Ibuprofen, advil, tylenol: whatever you like, make sure you’ve got some handy!

7.) Phone Charger

If you plan on being in the Parks from the time it opens until it closes, you must bring some sort of phone charger. Whether it’s a battery charging phone case or a regular cord, you should bring a method of charging with you. There are some open outlets hidden around the parks, so keep an eye out for them!

6.) Bathing Suit

If you’re staying on Disney property, then you should definitely pack a bathing suit. Every Disney hotel has a uniquely themed pool, and if you have downtime, you’re definitely going to want to take a trip to the pool. If you’re going to be visiting one of Disney’s Waterparks, then you’ll definitely want to bring at least two.

5.) Sweater

This may sound crazy, but during Florida summers, the nights can sometimes be cool. If you plan on being out at night, it’s a good idea to have a light sweater or hoodie available for you to use, especially if you are going on a water ride.

4.) Comfortable Shoes

As if sweating under Florida heat wasn’t uncomfortable, wearing uncomfortable shoes will make your trip to WDW painful. Do not wear heels, dress shoes, or cheap flip flops while in the park. If you want to pack any of these items for a trip to Disney Springs, then go for it; however, if you’re planning on trekking through a theme park, make sure you have comfortable shoes.

3.) Snacks

Since summer is the peak season at Walt Disney World, the lines for snacks can double and triple their normal wait time. In order to avoid this and save some money, make sure you pack some extra snacks in your suitcase and backpacks to bring with you in the park or munch on in the hotel room.

2.) Reusable Water Bottle

One thing about going to Walt Disney World that most people don’t consider is you must stay hydrated, especially during the summer. The easiest and cheapest way to do this is to bring your own reusable water bottle in the park. With water fountains all over the parks, you can fill up your water bottle constantly with absolutely no cost to you or your family, which is a great alternative to pay $3 per water bottle.

1.) Sunscreen

If you’re going to Walt Disney World during the summer, then you absolutely must pack sunscreen in your suitcase. Before you go anywhere or do anything outside, you should always put on sunscreen. The Florida sun is bright, powerful, and can be incredibly harmful to your skin. Always pack and wear sunscreen, especially during the longer summer days.

The most important thing to consider when packing for you and your family during the summer is what your individual family needs. In addition to these things, if your family is unaccustomed to heat or not used to long days, you’ll want to pack and plan for those needs. Enjoy your trip, and stay cool!
