5 ‘Must Do’s’ in Asia at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Asia

Animal Kingdom has a variety of different areas with different themes. It is comprised of the Oasis, Discovery Island, Africa, Asia, and DinoLand U.S.A. The Land of Pandora will be opening in 2017 in the old area occupied by Camp Minnie-Mickey. Although a lot of construction is happening in Animal Kingdom right now, there is much to see and enjoy in all of Animal Kingdom, but there are five things not to miss when visiting Asia!

5 – Maharajah Jungle Trek – this self-guided walking tour located across from Kali River Rapids is a great way to spend some time on your next trip to Asia. You can make the journey as long or as short as you want. The trek features animals from Southeast Asia including tigers, bats, and a Komodo dragon. There are a lot of hidden walking trails and areas to relax here. I enjoy meandering the paths here after having lunch or to dry off after getting soaked on Kali River Rapids. Much like Kilimanjaro Safaris, the experience is different every time, so don’t be too quick to dismiss it after doing it once.

4 – Anandapur Ice Cream Truck – located on your way to Expedition Everest, this truck is festooned in climbing gear. The real treat is served from inside! The Anandapur Ice Cream Truck serves your basic ice cream cone and floats! It is a wonderful treat to grab before jumping in line for Expedition Everest or once you get off. The truck and menu look very unassuming, so it is easy to walk right past it, but be sure that you don’t!

3 – Flights of Wonder – located directly across the bridge from Discovery Island, this show features the winged denizens of Animal Kingdom. The show features a variety of birds and also provides the audience with information about the birds and their natural habitats. It also includes some humor through the comedic stylings of Guano Bob. The show doesn’t deviate from show to show, but it is quickly becoming a favorite of my family when we visit Animal Kingdom. The show does also allow for some audience participation, so it does allow kids (and adventurous adults) to become involved in the show. Showtimes vary based on the time of the year, so be sure to grab a Times Guide when you arrive in the park!

2 – Yak and Yeti – one of only two table service restaurants in Animal Kingdom, Yak and Yeti features a variety of pan-Asian cuisine. They serve a variety of classic dishes and it wonderfully themed. If you don’t have an ADR, be sure to stop by first thing to see if you can get in for a meal. If you can’t, don’t fret; Yak and Yeti also has a counter service location located directly next door that features much of the same menu (same quality and less expensive)!

1 – Expedition Everest – the crown jewel of Asia is this amazing roller coaster that takes guests on a trip up the Forbidden Mountain in a quest to find the elusive Yeti! I enjoy riding in the front of the ride for the best views at the top of the mountain! If you are planning on park hopping or were not able to snag a FastPass for the ride, be sure to try and ride Expedition Everest using the single riders line. It can cut wait times drastically if you don’t mind splitting up your party.

Asia has a lot to enjoy when visiting Animal Kingdom. What is your favorite thing to do when there?
