5 Reasons Why You’ll Love Pongu Pongu Lounge in Animal Kingdom’s Pandora: World of Avatar

In the world of the Avatar film, the Na’vi term pongu pongu translates to “party party”. If you make a pit stop at the Pongu Pongu Lounge in Animal Kingdom’s newest land, Pandora — The World of Avatar, you’ll find a selection of refreshments that will whet your whistle and help you get back to enjoying your own Avatar-inspired pongu.

Here are 5 reasons why you’ll love this otherworldly drink stand.

5. The Backstory

The idea behind Pongu Pongu Lounge is that it was started by an expat — more specifically, a former employee of the fictional RDA (Resource Development Administration) — who grew to love the natural splendors of Pandora, and wanted to create a place where he/she and their fellow expats could get together and socialize. It then grew to become something of a hot spot where human tourists and Na’vi could gather together to celebrate the peace between their peoples.

4. The Theming

In true Avatar style, Pongu Pongu Lounge is adorned with bright colors and lots of Pandoran trinkets and RDA relics that come together to offer this little drink stand quite a lot of flair. The drinks they offer there also follow suit, which we’ll talk about in the next section.

Just in front of Pongu Pongu Lounge you’ll find a defunct “AMP” (Amplified Mobility Platform) Suit, which the drink stand’s expat owner seemingly placed outside as a sort of “centerpiece” or landmark for the place. Whatever the case, you sure can’t miss it! Be sure to take a photo in front of it to send your friends and family back home.

3. The Out-of-This-World Drinks

Pongu Pongu Lounge is home to two exclusive and festive frozen beverages: the non-alcoholic Night Blossom and the alcoholic Mo’ara Margarita.

The Night Blossom is that bright purple-and-green layered drink you often see people carrying around Avatar — The World of Avatar (and elsewhere throughout Animal Kingdom). It’s made from a mix of limeade with apple and desert pear flavors, all of which is topped off with some yellow passion fruit-flavored boba balls. (If you don’t know, boba balls are those delicious little fruit juice-filled squishy spheres that sort of pop as you bite into them.)

The Mo’ara Margarita, on the other hand, doesn’t have all the eye-catching colors of the Night Blossom drink, but makes up for it by being one of the more refreshing alcoholic beverages in all of Walt Disney World. It combines Sauza Conmemorativo Añejo tequila with strawberry and blood orange flavors, all topped with red strawberry boba balls rather than passion fruit ones.

Both drinks can be ordered in normal fashion with no fancy add-ons, or you can have both of them come with a glowing, clip-on “Unadelta” seed, which lends a bioluminescent Pandoran quality to each drink. This seed can be used for other drinks in the parks later (or at home after your trip), which is fun.

You also have the option to spring for a souvenir mug with either beverage, which is clear so you can show off the vibrant color of each drink as you explore the Valley of Mo’ara.

2. It’s Close to Both “Avatar Flight of Passage” and Windtraders

Sure, comparing the absolutely incredible “Avatar Flight of Passage” ride with a merchandise and souvenir shop—even a Pandora-themed one—is like comparing apples to oranges, but hey, it’s good to know that whether you’re taking a breathtaking 4D journey or shopping for mementos to take home, a refreshing drink is never far away thanks to Pongu Pongu Lounge.

1. The Dessert

Yes, you read that correctly: That’s “dessert” without an “s”, meaning there is only one treat that you can order from Pongu Pongu Lounge. However, it’s certainly an interesting one. They call it the Pongu Lumpia.

In case you don’t know, lumpia is a type of savory spring roll that is believed to have originated in China, but is far more commonly found these days in the Philippines and Indonesia. At Pongu Pongu Lounge, this favorite snack has been given a dash of the sweetly tropical with a pineapple and cream cheese filling. It has been described as a “pineapple cream pie in an egg roll”, which we think is totally apt.
What’s nice about this treat is that it’s just $3 for two rolls, which isn’t too bad a deal at all!

There you have it, five things about Pongu Pongu Lounge that will keep you coming back for more Pandoran refreshment every time you visit Animal Kingdom.
