6 Fun Finds at Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom

1. “Secret” Trails Around the Tree of Life

That’s right, there are a series of walking trails around the base of the famous Tree of Life, which offer a close-up look at Animal Kingdom’s iconic centerpiece. They’re called the Discovery Island Trails, and you can reach the either end of these pathways from one of two places: 1) just before the bridge from Discovery Island to Africa, and 2) directly to the right of the tree itself.

As you walk these serene, winding trails, you’ll encounter various sorts of African wildlife, venture into cave-like tunnels, observe an abundance of verdant flora, and of course, close-up views of the Tree of Life’s intricately carved details.

It’s a shame that more guests don’t take the time to explore these trails. They really are a wonderful way to escape for a while and reflect on our place in nature.

As you may expect, there are plenty more secrets to be found in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The next time you visit there, be sure to don your Wilderness Explorer hat—in the literal or metaphorical sense, it’s up to you—and discover even more things this wild park has to offer!
