Over the summer, the theft of thousands of limited-edition Bluey coins captivated public attention not only for the dollar amount involved but also for the unique cultural significance of the coins. On Tuesday, detectives announced a new arrest in the alleged cartoon coin heist.
The Royal Australian Mint released these $1 coins, which feature ten unique designs from the beloved children's series Bluey, in September. However, thousands of coins that should've been available to fans were missing.

On July 12, 2024, approximately 63,000 coins were reported stolen from a warehouse in Wetherill Park, Sydney, Australia. This marked the beginning of a series of criminal investigations.
This week, a 27-year-old woman was arrested in Green Valley, making her the third individual charged in connection with the theft. Law enforcement officials have charged her with three counts of aggravated break-and-enter and disposing of stolen property valued at under $5000. She declined bail.

This arrest followed previous charges filed against two other men, one aged 47 and another aged 44, who were also implicated in the theft. The 44-year-old man allegedly worked at the warehouse where the coins were stored, while the 27-year-old woman allegedly drove the getaway car during the heist.
Authorities say the lost Bluey coins were valued at over $600,000. Only 189 coins have been recovered.
Bluey Coin Heist Investigation and Legal Proceedings

The investigation into the Bluey coin theft is being spearheaded by a special police unit designated as “Strike Force Bandit.” This task force has been tasked with unraveling the criminal enterprises associated with the theft and identifying additional suspects who may be involved. The significant financial loss tied to the coins has prompted a thorough review of security protocols at the Royal Australian Mint and other agencies involved in the distribution of these commemorative items.
Each of the arrested suspects faces serious legal charges. The 27-year-old woman is charged with aggravated breaking and entering, indicating her alleged role in the physical theft, while the two men arrested earlier are also facing similar counts. They remain before the courts, and the potential for extended prison sentences looms as legal proceedings advance.
