NEW: Disney Erases Animal Kingdom History Overnight

A major piece of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park history is gone. Overnight, Disney demolished some of the last visible remnants of Chester & Hester’s Dino-Rama in DinoLand U.S.A. The prehistoric land has been part of the park since its grand opening in 1998.

As Walt Disney World Resort moves forward with its new Tropical Americas expansion, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park is quickly removing traces of the past to make way for the future.

Once a quirky, roadside-style attraction area, DinoLand U.S.A. has been vanishing piece by piece since January 2025. Guests saw the closures of TriceraTop Spin, Chester & Hester’s Dino-Rama (featuring the Fossil Fun Games), and Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures, followed by immediate demolition work.

Now, crews have erased more of the land overnight, removing two of its most recognizable billboards. One of the signs, which welcomed guests to Diggs County, featured an illustration of The Dino Institute. The other sign advertised the parking lot for Chester & Hester’s Dino-Rama, tying into the theme’s classic roadside carnival aesthetic.

According to BlogMickey, construction crews wasted no time tearing down the billboards, leaving behind a crumpled mess of signage and debris. The Diggs County sign was destroyed on the ground, and there is no indication that Disney attempted to save it. The fate of the Dino-Rama parking lot sign remains unclear.

Other pieces of DinoLand U.S.A.’s history still remain, including Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures and the giant dinosaur statue near the entrance. However, with demolition ramping up, these relics of Animal Kingdom’s past may not last much longer.

While Disney is rapidly clearing out the past, new developments are on the horizon. The new Tropical Americas land, Pueblo Esperanza, will bring two Encanto (2021) attractions and an Indiana Jones reskin of DINOSAUR to the park in the coming years.

Although an official opening date has yet to be announced, Walt Disney World Resort previously hinted that the Pueblo Esperanza expansion is expected to debut at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park sometime in 2027.

Guests can ride DINOSAUR, play in The Boneyard, meet Disney characters, and eat at several Quick Service dining locations in DinoLand U.S.A. through the end of 2025.
